This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Is he half Quarter Horse or Half Paint? You said his sire was registered with the APHA. Of course, he could be a QH and have too much white and they registered him as a Paint. Anyways, I really like his color. Congrats!
Thanks, I will tell her.
Your horses are really looking great! You make sure Miss Friday gets a wonderful home. :)
Thank you :)
Well so far, Miss Friday has NOT gone to the person who wanted to make her an endurance horse, nor has she gone to the woman who wanted her for her kids for a trail horse. I refuse to even admit to any one inquiring that she is broke to ride ‘cause she’s really happy as a broodmare, that’s where I want her to go.
The trails were quite muddy in spots. because we had a lot of rain the past few days. Alison, Amy and I rode Saturday and Sunday. Friends of ours came and she rode on Monday while I stayed back at camp and packed up. That was ok, as I got a little sore. Out of shape for the hill riding.
A few pictures from the weekend. We were not in the kind of areas Frog and the others ride in, but it was nice.
Ziggy was a little reluctant to go down this slick area into the little creek. We don't know if she had ever been trail riding, but she did great.
Good Girl!
Jody getting a bath. Had to wash all that mud off.
My SIL, Ben showing how he can whip his 4-wheelers into shape. Guys had fun too, but the ATV trails were a lot muddier than the horse trails.
I had to get a shot of this mule. We were parked right by the wash rack and had lot of entertainment, with all the people hosing their horses off.
I’m glad you had a good time, the pictures are great. It sure is pretty and green there. If the rain soesn’t stop here soon, it will be green here too :)
The horses all look great.
Very cool! I’m not sure I know who Ziggy is! Is she new?
A wash rack right in camp is pretty cool! And needed, when the trails are muddy.
We didn’t go riding today... we were LAZY. It’s kindof a grey lazy day.
We have a trip planned to Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky Thurs.-Sun. It is a 5 hr. drive from NW Alabama. Bladerider and family, a couple of the guy group, and Hal and I are going. I can't wait. I am trying to get Faith's leg healed up enough to go. She also need's a shoe reset. I may have to ride Daisy again. She will do great, I just miss riding Faith. Tomorrow will be a month since she cut her leg.
Anyway, glad you got to go and have a good time and made it back w/o incident.

Fun pictures :~) I like Papa Hal’s fish. :~)
Nice looking menfolk you have there :)
Nice looking fish too.
She is the Paint mare Amy bought last fall. She had sold her QH, Biscuit and wanted to get something else that maybe Alison can use for showing. She is 12 and a Western Pleasure horse. She might be a little too much for Alison for Walk-Trot.
Oh wow, nice bass. Was that at your farm pond?
Daddy is a paint by virtue of some high white stockings I think. The only pic I could find of him is that QH pose from the rear and that was the only white I could see. He’s a palomino in color. Smoke ended up with a band of white around one foot that’s only about an inch thick.
Got a call from the BF's brother. His neighbor is looking to give away her horse because he's just too much work for her now. The brother thought of me immediately. Well, I'm not in the market for any more but listen to this...
Lady gets on the phone and asks me to help her place her horse. He's a real sweetheart. I ask her to tell me about him. He's a sixteen year old quarter horse stallion that knows how to do nothing! Never been broke to ride and he gets treated like a puppy!
I repeated back to her in an amazed voice "you're looking for a home for a 16 year old unbroke stallion?" and she didn't seem to pick up on my shock. What the heck is wrong with people???
She created a totally unacceptable situation with this horse and he's not usable for anything. Now she wants to pawn him off on someone else. If he doesn't know how to lead and tie and load in a trailer how the hell is he supposed to even get a home? It's not the horse's fault that he is completely useless and if she can't take care of him the kindest thing to do would be dig a hole and call the vet.
I hope she does not approach me again...I might have to open my big mouth and tell her what I really think.
Well, she may get there... and Alison's growing up. I don't remember hearing about her. She's a pretty mare. :~)
Oh dear. What a situation. I wish the horse luck.
I do too. I’m the type that will try to help any four legged creature. I never, ever thought I’d say burying one would be the best option, but if she is truly unable to care for this stallion that has never even been taught to lead I’m thinking that would be the kindest end for him.
I sure can’t imagine trying to halter him and put him on a trailer to haul anywhere. And castrating one and trying to start him at that age could be disaster. I think I’ll just say a prayer that things work out well for the both of them. My resources are stretched so thin right now I couldn’t take him if his circumstances were different.
If she’s really clueless, it’s really rather remarkable she’s been able to keep him this long under those circumstances.
That is amazing that she has been able to keep a PET that long and feed and take care of him and never have to have carried him to a vet or anything. She must have more money than sense. I too wish them luck.
