FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, it has happened. Actually looks like it happened some time ago, but they've now gotten so big and active, she can't hide them any more.

She was NOT amused at my interest:

But her kittens are absolutely beautiful.

I think there are just those three, unless there are more hiding inside that never came out.

Here's the part that really worries me... they are up very high... I set up this dogloo for the ferals to be in, and safe from the dogs, but it's not safe for little wandering kittens, it's up very high! Inside that TV box.

So what do I do first? I think the kittens look very healthy and old enough to eat solid food if I took them, don't you? Or at least some food mixed with milk replacer.

I could easily take the kittens. But what will momma do? I don't want her to be scared off, I'd like to help her and spay her if we can. Should I try to trap her first? Or focus on the babies first? Help!

Oh, gee...

I have no suggestions. I’m thinking it may be best to concentrate on the kittens, but I don’t know!

Are they ever cute, though! Look fairly old, too, don’t they? I like the little ginger one...awww...

How cute. Mine are climbing out too. I put extra food out in a bowl this morning and skipped coming home for a lunch feeding. I thought they might eat. Nope... the two little ones waited for their bottle and ate twice as much as they usually do.

I’m thinking if we don’t grab them soon, like tonight, we’ll never catch them. They’re just starting to get active and try to venture out. I’ve never seen them before today. Momma, I’ve noticed, has been willing to stay there on top of the cabinet even when I was feeding. I thought she was finally getting used to me, now I know she’s just guarding them.

Aw, gee...

You don’t know how vulnerable I am right now. Look at my last post on the Hobbit Hole, before your post over here. And then *you* had to go and post pictures!

I’m very tempted to call dibs on the ginger kitten...as if I need another cat.

HA! Well, how would you like instead a very cute product of indiscriminate breeding? :~)

Try to trap mom - maybe with a have-a-heart trap with a towel over it and tuna. Or put a dog crate out with food and towels in it and see if she’ll move them all to it. Good luck.

Well, we weren't able to catch mom, but we did catch 4 very cute kittens. The black kitten turned out to be TWO black kittens ;~)

Oh they are cute as can be :) Maybe you can catch momma now with a trap and get her spayed. So - how many cats in your near future?

We don’t know... we gotta give ~some~ away! And I’d like to catch momma, if we didn’t make her run away. Hopefully she’ll come back. If she does, we’ll try to get a live trap.

I have one that color too. She follows me around like a puppy. I have 3 that look like your mamma cat. The littlest is still on a bottle. She flaps her ears when she eats. Sometimes she looks like she’s going to lift off.

Well, it must be the season. Kristy found 3 newborn kittens just yesterday. Momma cat had them in a lawn chair on the front porch. Kittens are so cute and so much fun!

Today we are going to have some fun. The girls and I are taking Tucker and JP, Harley and Dot to a playday. The boys will be in leadline doing barrels, flags, and poles on Dot. Kristy is going to run Harley under the time clock so we will know if he is ready to compete.

The camera is in my purse:)

Well, I'm glad I didn't find these as newborns. These here are just about old enough to eat on their own. They're not eating real well yet, but I keep sticking their faces in it so at least they're licking that off! ;~)

The camera is in my purse:)

Very good... I was just going to ask! :~) That sounds like fun... look forward to lots of pictures!
