FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I just realized what I did. I saw the original comment about TanyaC97 missing someone’s advice and thought that was Becky’s comment to you, but it was yours to her. Duuuuuh!! I’m a little slow sometimes.

I’ve got mine coming on Monday afternoon. Bob and Hope need reset and I haven’t decided yet what to do about Goose and Whirl. At this guy’s prices, I can’t afford to keep 4 of them shod. That’d be almost $400 every 6wks! Goose is shod right now and Whirl has shoes on the back. She pulled one of the front ones off the first week I got her back from the trainer so I went ahead and pulled the other one too, just so she’d be even. I’m thinking about pulling the shoes on both of them and trying them in Easyboots. But if she can’t wear the size 0s that I already have I’ll have to order some more. It’ll all just depend on how their gait turns out as to whether I leave them that way though.

That’s a lot of horses to keep shod to be sure! Which ones do you think you’ll keep? Are any of them advertised now?

So glad you all are talking about farriers this morning...I need to call mine and keep forgetting.

I have some horsey news. Harley will be moving down to Kristy’s place today. Makes it easier for her to ride him regularly. That will leave me with only Rocky here.

Good morning:)

Becky

My heart jumped when you said horsey news and Harley... I thought maybe you'd sold him. :~\

I need to get the mares back on the same schedule as Bay... it's silly to have him come out two weeks apart, but he decided the didn't need done yet two weeks ago, and now pony's had a weird hole blow out. Nothing serious, but it needs trimmed and rasped.

What has my pony done?

I wish. But having him go there will increase his exposure, because she will be hauling him more around to people who are more of potential buyers.

Well, I know I’ll keep Bob, and I guess I’ll keep Grace, just because she has allergies and needs to be in a fly sheet all the time or she’s just a mess, and I don’t think anybody else would want to deal with that. But she rides good and is very laid back, and she’s pretty so that’s not too hard to take. I guess I really need to sell Hope, Goose and Whirl. Nobody’s advertised as of yet, but I keep thinking I need to take some new pictures and maybe some video and do that.

That’s good... We’ll keep a hopin.

I still have dreams about bringing Rocky here. I had a little panel corral for him in the paddock and one of those portable barns. ;~)

I only wish it made sense. See the problem is I rode him.... I bond really quickly with things. He’s a good horse!

Well, if you bought him you’d just need to geld him and that would be a shame, since he’s so nice and has such a nice pedigree. Plus if you didn’t your shameless huzzy mares would drive you crazy. ;o) Considering how they act around poor ol’ Bay, just think about the hysterics they’d go into if they had the full Monty around, especially one as good-lookin as TheRock.

I’ve thought through all of those things... first that I wouldn’t geld him at first, I’d see if anyone I like wanted a foal from him... that we’d breed Cyn to him... but then, you’re right, after that was over, it would become a pain in the rear to have to keep him separated, and you know... I think it would break Bay’s heart to not be the biggest stud on the property.

Well, if you want cyn to have a foal from him you could always pay Becky to have him collected and ship the frozen semen.

Well, that’s an idea, but not as fun to muse about as having him here.

I do actually think he’d be a good match, but it would be a grade horse baby... half QH, half Arab and Mustang. Pretty good makings for a good trail horse there! It would do her well to be bred to someone with his width and bulk.

Ooop - farrier’s here....

...but it would be a grade horse baby...

And what would that matter? You'd have good temperament and conformation on both sides of the equation, and you're not interested in showing, so papers don't matter. What more could you want? ;o)

Heh... and it would definitely be a Bay or buckskin baby, so it would match the theme around here well enough ;~)
