FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

But he hasn't caught a finger in it yet on the learning curve... I'm one finger smarter! ;~)

Yeah, back on the 7th of this month. She had been in an assisted living since May of last year because of some low BP and falling issues, but her Alzheimer’s wasn’t really that bad yet. She had been doing real well health-wise for the last month or so, but she just had a massive stroke around lunch-time that day and never recovered. It was a blessing that she went that way rather than slowly losing herself to Alzheimer’s. There’s worse things than death.

You’re just especially talented. All I ever managed to catch in one of those things, other than branches, was it’s own power cord. Doh!

Well, it was a special circumstance. I had snagged it on a piece of old wire that was hidden in the brush I was cutting. I reached up to grab the wire and pull it out of there, but the trigger was still locked on. As soon as I cleared the wire, it was running again. :~P

OUCH!

You’re lucky everybody wasn’t calling you “Stumpy” after that little adventure!

Yes, I’m afraid it would have ended any dreams of a career as a concert pianist. ;~)

See if you can rent a gas-powered hedge trimmer.

We have a gas powered trimmer and got a blade attachment for it to get through the tick briars that come up. Gas ones are a little more powerful but there is only so much the nylon sting can do.

I wish you all lived closer around here to help with advise about shoeing.

I wish we all lived closer, we had such a good time in OCT.

Honey - vet’s wife just called and wants to come today instead of next week, since it’s going to be so nice and he’s open.

I said OK - and they’d probably bill us if we have to, if it’s a lot, I told her already my payday was next week. But if it’s not bad can I just pay him?

Sounds like the best solution would be to trap them, then turn them out, maybe out in the back forty, away from the house, then shoot them out there.

I don't know if they are anything like raccoons but there is a guy here at work that has trapped several raccoons that have been getting in his attic and relocating them. He just kept catching then and catching them and relocating them 20-30 miles away and he lives in the city. So one night he sprayed one with spray paint on the back and sure enough a few days later that SAME raccoon was back at his house!

OK, I may be a little dnese and since I don't visit this site much-please explain I do have an advantage in that I am married to the game warden's wife.

Posted by Ranger25. Married to the game wardens wife, wouldn't that make him the game warden or is that another polygamist compound!

Nasty things... OK - If hubby wants to shoot them I guess I’ll plan on making some coffee and staying up with him tonight!

Vet’s been and gone. Said he really wonders if Bay’s got the wrong papers, he’s in such good health. :~) His teeth didn’t need done, and they’re still good. He think better then we have a right for them to be. :~)

He was off in the canter. That’s an issue I’m not sure I’ve mentioned here yet, that I’ve just been privately stewing about. He’s fine in the trot, reaches just as far in back as he always has. He just used to have such a nice canter and now he’s really disunited in back, constantly changing leads back and forth. I had been suspecting arthritis in his hips, but he doesn’t think so. He didn’t do a lot of diagnostics either. Less than I’d hoped. Thought he just needed to do some riding and walking on trail and getting in better shape. And that he’s just old. I did say I didn’t care if he ever cantered under saddle again so maybe that kept him from worrying very much about it.

Cyn’s fine. And she was good for the vet. She’s too fat. Doesn’t want her on grass very much. I’ve been limiting her. Thinks she needs work.

Pony was a complete snot. Was hard to even get shots in her. Airs above the ground. The brat. He said if she was Bay’s size he’d be afraid to work around her. I think I’m like one of those people who has a small obnoxious dog that bites but doesn’t take it seriously because she’s little. We’re assuming her teeth need done but will put it off till fall. I don’t think he felt like doing it today.

Shots for everyone and a release to go back to work... $325.

Oh - and he took a needle aspirate of Barkley’s armpit lump. It’s just fat. No charge. :~)
