FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Oh no.... but I wanted Rocky!

I hope she does end up finding him a good home. :~)

LOL...sorry for the change in plans you had. Makes it difficult when things change at the last minute like that.

I doubt the extra bute will hurt the pony. I wouldn’t worry.

We just couldn’t figure out why he didn’t leave ~anything~ the way he said he would... like he expected us to just figure it all out. I mean, the guy is unorganized, I know, but sheesh!

Anyway, it makes more sense now, but I still can’t figure out if we did right by the pony, I mean... She didn’t have water (it was nearly empty from overnight) and she didn’t have hay, so maybe he really didn’t do anything with her this morning, but that doesn’t make any sense.

On Rocky... I wish we could afford him, and the shipping... I’ve actually mused a lot about it, because he would be a good match for the kind of baby we’d want out of Cyn... He offers the bulk and muscle she doesn’t have. But I figured the only way we could safely keep him would be to set up one of those portable stalls with panels or something and/or build him his own paddock. And I’d still worry about clashes through the fence between him and Bay. Bay comes on pretty strong to other males. He still thinks he’s all that Rocky is. :~)

Well, we’re off for the next errand on our task list... taking the slow leaking trailer tire to a tire shop, and getting hay.

Back later.

That’s great - you know she will have fallen in love with him. At least pictures will get out to serious horsemen if nothing else.

I dont think the extra bute will hurt the pony :) A coyote would have to be a real fool to mess with that llama - he looks like he means business.

Happy Belated Birthday Hair!

My cable was out for 12 hours or I would have posted sooner.

I figured it was close, when you said you had to get your license renewed.

That cat just can’t get enough water today. What’s a normal blood sugar for a cat?

Maybe Cyn could have a long distance relationship with Rocky.

I just asked my son - he thinks it should be between 100 - 120. I’ll see if I can find out for sure.

This is what I found -

It is “conventional wisdom” that hypoglycemia in the feline diabetic is to be feared more than any other eventuality. Thus, most traditional protocols perpetuate the patients’ diabetes because maintaining a patient’s blood glucose in the range above normal (greater than 120-150) insures that the cat will never recover from its disease. While hypoglycemic seizures are to be avoided, no question, it is not necessary to keep a patient’s blood glucose above 200mg/dl, or even above 150, to accomplish this. Through its evolved physiology, the cat prefers to function at blood glucose levels below 100! In fact, if we could test our healthy patients without the stress of the hospital environment elevating their blood glucose levels in our clinics, we would realize that most cats are perfectly happy with levels around 60-100! In nature, most of the cats’ blood glucose is glucose produced by its liver from protein amino acids on an “as needed” basis. Large sugar surges from dietary carbohydrate intake, well tolerated by omnivores and herbivores, are essentially unknown to the cat in the wild setting and are clearly unwelcome as well.

Well I’ll keep an eye on her. She’s been hanging around more today than usual. Maybe it’s about time (which is what I thought a few weeks ago)

If she has them here. She roams. Sometimes I don’t see her for days and then she’s back for 3 meals a day. I don’t want to keep her locked up in the garage all the time and after a bit she wants out of the house. I don’t own her:’)

The kittens have already been given away. Joshua will take one, Cody will take one and Sarah will take one. The only problem is that they say they are going to have to keep them at my house!

Somehow that doesn’t sound fair - you get to feed and water and clean litter boxes and they get ownership :)

I love the one where he’s sleeping. It’s like he’s done a good job and now he just wants to rest.
They are beautiful dogs.
