This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
It was a pretty stormy night, several tornados, wind, hail, and flooding.
Jenny made it into town and said everything is fine there. I was afraid with all the road construction they have been doing to the street in front of my building that there might be problems there. The construction is suppose to be “flood control”:). Maybe it’s going to work, at least for downtown Bixby. There was a report last night on the local news that one neighborhood that never flooded before is flooding and the residents say it’s because the “flood control” work that has been done for the last few years has just moved the water to their neighborhood.

Oh that bridge is horrible. It looks extremely dangerous. I am so glad now that you aren’t working and won’t be tempted to push your luck getting across to get to work or home.
Well dang... I had no idea you were still having that kind of weather. Hope town stays dry :~\
I’m back from town, we had to have our driver’s licenses renewed...
This is the land around where the Pumpkin Patch was.
And this is the same stretch of road after the bridge I showed last week, you can see the water is even higher. When I went back to town this evening to eat with the kids the water had come up all the way to the sign, so it's still rising.
And this is the road construction going on in front of my building.

And a good example of the city workers “working”...6 people standing watching one man run a bucket:)

Yikes, look at all that water!
Just got back from visiting Bob, we’re horse and alpaca sitting this weekend, so we had to learn the routine.
Funny video... they aren’t even really watching the guy runnin’ the bucket, they’re just gabbin. ;~)
Well, I hope the fix fixes it, until it washes out again ;~\
And that is exactly all this fix will do.
Becky
Well, will it look good enough for new buyers coming out to look at your place all summer? :~)
Well, we got all trained in how to feed the horses and alpacas down at Bob’s last night. We have to feed for him Saturday and Sunday. I’ll take some pictures when we’re down there.
His little pony foundered again, not bad, just mild, but she’s in a stall on deep bedding, getting a little bute and some hay, and was looking a little tender footed but not bad.
Remarkable that she’s foundered this early in the season, but she’s kindof a chronic case.
Other than that, everyone looked good... Kat looks good, still hasn’t done a lick of work since the last time I was on her, but I guess Jessie’s lessons over at the stable are going very well. She’s actually riding Jihaan, the Arab bob traded for Barney because he was too hot and spooky. I think it was just Bob who sets him off ;~)
One thing that was neat was a manure fork, that had a little battery operated fan on it, to blow away shavings, when you pick stalls. That would sure save on throwing away the good stuff.
I am also in the market for a manure spreader and found THIS neat cart. That would work for us.
Heh... I’d have to see the fork with the fan to believe it!
That cart looks nifty though!
Bob’s got a manure spreader, but it needs a PTO on a tractor... it flings it far and wide... is a pretty nifty thing!
I couldn't find a web site and I think they were $75.00. They do have a patent thou.
United States Patent 6494514 Combined manure fork and shavings blower US Patent Issued on 12/17/2002 Abstract:For conserving bedding material such as wood shavings when cleaning livestock environments such as horse stalls, a manure fork is combined with an air blower directed into the working region of the fork. The air flow is directed to blow the loose bedding material past the fork tines and onto surrounding regions of the stall automatically, while the worker simply works with the fork in the normal manner to remove the manure. The bedding material remains in the stall, thus saving a substantial portion of the usual replenishment costs. The invention thus accomplishes substantial overall cost savings and environmental conservation without requiring special supervision or unusual diligence on the part of the worker.
My compact tractor does have a PTO, but with the brush hog on the back, it would be a pain to unhook all the time. The cart was $690 at the show, but I see on the site, they want over $800.00. I did look at the little manure spreaders and they were $2000!
Bob’s manure spreader is an old rusty thing, probably picked it up at a yard sale somewhere and didn’t pay a lot for it!
I’m sorry about the pony, and am glad it is not too serious.
Sounds like Kat needs some time tied to a tree:), I’d bet that would help.
I just got back in from doing my first bids with Charlie. It’s been a good day:). After doing the bids, we played a bit of ping pong:). I’m going to hang out with Jenny this evening. And my brother called, he’s finally home, for good, so it will be fun having him close again.
Now to get some house work done...ewww...always something to take the joy out of a day:)
Becky
Ah - Good for you on the first part of the day :~)- sorry about that house-work part.
I’m so far not accomplishing much. Need to go get feed... and I need to feed less of it to my husband’s horse. I’ve been staring at her just now and she’s just plumb fat.
And I’m glad she can’t say the same of me out loud :~)
But I think I’m going to cut them all to grain once a day. They’re getting less than a pound at each feeding now, so there’s not a lot of point in just cutting back portions. That feed is potent!
And tonight I’m going out for dinner at the restaurant of my choice, it’s my birthday :~)
I’m thinking big ole steak.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
Well thanks... I’d just as soon put off birthdays another year or two, but if I have to have it, I guess I’ll have it with steak. :~D
Live it up today. You can work it off tomorrow; or not!!
