This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
So sorry for your lost. How long had you had Tuff?
Well, apparently Tiff has a baby on the ground and everything is fine!
She foaled in the middle of the day, with all the other horses in the field with her. She was thinking of maybe putting up some fencing this weekend to give her her own part of the pasture away from Tell, which is what I recommended a month ago, but now she doesn’t have to.
I said congratulations, and glad everything went well, but I think she could tell I was really searching for what to say. “Well, great! So, did you DO anything to help ensure it would go safely, or did you just rely on luck?” She’s charmed!
I can’t go see him today, we have to go up to the beach house to finish our taxes. But probably will by next weekend.
LOL - yes, she’s charmed. Looking forward to pictures of the baby.
Very good! Very cute! Applause! :~D
How’d momma do?
Congrats! Cute little guy and color to boot!
Good morning. Farah did okay - it took about an hour before she could get up. I am so very glad she will not be bred again. But, she knows the routine - give me my bran and molasses please and keep an eye on the kid :)
She’s such a good mare. We decided we are going out of the horse business and I’m gradually getting everyone listed for sale but she, Prez and Indy will be kept. Probably Tuffy at least through this show season.
Well, having four horses is not exactly ‘out of the horse business’ ;~)
I understand though... no more breeding and such?
Who will be showing Tuffy this year?
He’s beautiful. Glad they are both doing well. Is that the last one you have due this year? Do you ride for fun, or just show? Sorry, I can’t remember you saying before. Glad you are not getting completely out. We enjoy it so much, I hate not having any for 18 years and missing out. We rode Sat. and braved the mud, but it was worth it.
Nope, no more breeding. Janelle will show Tuffy this year at open shows and maybe a couple of app shows since there will be a couple locally. We’re keeping Prez and Indy to ride and Farah to ride and because I can’t trust anyone buying her to not breed her - she has such great babies.
We have one more baby due - anytime now as a matter of fact. We used to trail ride a lot, now I don’t ride at all. We showed for the past several years at halter at local shows and app shows years ago when they had them here in Northern Nevada. And had several of the horses competing in endurance. But, Bob’s now 72 and I’m pushing 61 - time for us both to start taking it easy. Hoping that I can retire in the near future.
Maybe you can. One never knows how long they’ll be able to ride. The guys around here just get wagons or carts and start going up and down the dirt rodes in them. I know it’s hard to sell one and not worry about it. It would be even worse it you’d had them for years. The 3 we’ve sold we had a year or less and we tried to make sure the people would be good to them. I feel pretty good abt. ours.
We just went to a trainers barn last week to get out mare checked by US. He was riding one when we got there and rode a 2yo before we left. They had the big plantation pads on and stood on them in their stalls all the time. When he rode he put rubber guards, grease, and chains on them (2 sets on the 2 yo). I just don’t think I could do that to one. I like the plain flat shoes and stuff like you’re talking abt. better.
We hadn’t heard from Frog since Sat. so Bladerider and I got concerned. She said to let everyone know her mama just passed away. She had a stroke Sat. and she’d been at the hospital the whole time. She said she’d be out of pocket a couple more days.
Oh frog, I am so sorry on the loss of your mom.
(((((((((frog)))))))))
I don’t know if it is a complete shock or if she’d been ill? But we aren’t ever ready to lose our moms.
I am so sorry to hear that. Let her know I’m thinking of her and praying for her and her family.
Well dang. I was just getting ready to go lunge Bay and probably get on and ride easy a little. First time since getting back from Oklahoma! But now it is POURING. I mean, not just WA drizzle, real rain. Phooey.
Ping to above... Have you ridden yet?
I’ve been having dreams about buying Rocky. I sure wish I was set up to take him.
Shoot. Is winter ever going to end?
Well, after winter comes spring... and the best way to describe spring is “changeable”.
Sortof like this forum lately. :~\
It may still work out. The downpour didn’t last a long time, and I may give it a little while to dry up and still try to ride this afternoon.
I want to get in a couple short walking rides to condition Bay. It’s not fair to just get on him one day and expect him to carry me on trail.
Well I hope you get the chance to ride this afternoon. It will be good for Bay and good for your soul :)
Things do keep changing here don’t they?
