This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
At least you didn't have to worry through the labor and delivery . . . !
He's a handsome fellow. He may gray out . . . or he may not. Just have to wait and see.
Mama looks bemused by the whole affair. "Where did THIS come from? And what IS it?"
Glad you had a safe trip. Did you take all sorts of pictures of grandkids and scenery? (hint, hint)
Boy, that bridge doesn’t look safe, even one car at a time. How soon do they expect to have repairs completed? And, can you get to work via any other road?
I’m still about 7 hours from home. LOL,I have lots of pics. I’m going to take them to Walmart when I get back.
Dang - I keep forgetting how big Texas is :) I’ll be looking forward to the pictures though and will probably nag about them.
When I picked my Mom up she asked about pics from last year. I handed her a scrape book I put together. Tonight she asked if I wanted her to take the film. I told her nah, I would do it. She said “well..okkkkkkkk.”
LOL - another crapbook in the works?
So - how do you like all the changes and improvements here? Every time I turn around, I can’t get FR to load, denied by a server upstream or something.
I’m not much on change (unless I’m doing the changing) even if it’s better. I like comfortable.
I’m the same way. I really dislike change for change’s sake. Big problem at work right now with that.
Good morning....
I did not see the water over the bridge, it had gone down by the time I got there. When I was taking the pictures my neighbor came by, and said the water rose as high as the last sign you see in the picture.
I live on a dead end road, and that is the only road in, so some type of road/bridge has to be kept open for 10 families to get home.
According to the crew working on the bridge, if we drive within the barriers we will be OK. The support under the edges of the bridge has been wash out on both sides, but the center is “supposedly” OK...LOL...what else can they say...we have to use it, not much of a choice.
I guess they plan on rebuilding this bridge this summer, how that will happen I have no idea. When they have rebuilt the other bridges around this area there was always alternate ways in and out...there isn’t here. I don’t know if this one will stay while they build another one somewhere else, or if they’ll tear this one down and make a temporary one...who knows.
I’m off work today. I have a medical exam this afternoon, for insurance purposes, and I’m going to go watch JP and Tucker at gymnastics, and for the rest of the day be a bum:).
Severe weather is forecast for tonight and tomorrow, and lots of rain.
Becky
He's somewhere between 16.2 and 17 hands. I haven't measured him in a long time. I'm 5'7" if that gives you any indication of his height.
OH no! Batter down your hatches :~\
Good morning... need more coffee here, then figure out what to do today.
Just what you need - more severe weather and rain. Is work close enough that you can ride Harley in? I mean, at least he can swim if the bridge goes out.
Hope you have a safe and quiet evening.
Good morning..
Raining again today, and it could get heavy this evening, as our temperatures are going up, and a cold front coming in this evening. I think flash flooding again is the main concern. I will be at work this evening...so hoping I’ll be able to get home tonight.
The girl that drives the school bus up my road goes to the church I go too, and she told me the bus is not allowed to cross the damaged bridge. Parents are having to get there kids to the main road at the top of my road to be picked up. She also said the rumor at the school bus barn is that the city is only going to shore up the bridge enough to make it safe for the 11 families that live past it, but the bus will still not be able to go over it. According to them it will cost $400,000 dollars for a new bridge and they do not feel it is worth it for 11 families. Knowing some of my neighbors, I can’t imagine they will not fight this, so it could be interesting to watch:)
I’m thinking what the best thing would be is for it to flood again across that bridge and just take the whole thing out...
Becky
Yes, that could get very interesting. How far is it from the bridge to your house? Is there any possibility of parking a vehicle on the town side of the bridge and another on the house side and just walk across?
The bridge is about 1/4 mile from my house.
For the most part, even if the bridge is totally washed out, you could drive thru the creek bed for most of the year, it is never real deep, or flowing fast, except during hard rain...and even then it doesn’t stay deep and fast for more then several hours, at least that’s how it’s been in the past. When we first moved here the bridge that the developer put in when the roads were cut for this addition really wasn’t a bridge:), under a one lane cross over. The bridge that is there now that has failed is probably no more then 15 years old,...they just keep putting bridges in that are not real good. My impression is they don’t want to spend a lot of money since so few people would need it. The present bridge is the third one that has been tried. The city should have made sure that the developer that opened this housing addition 30 years ago addressed this issue of a bridge on this road. When we first moved here the developer had just put in a small culvert covered with dirt and gravel wide enough for one car to pass at a time...of course that failed after the first big rain. The second bridge was several culverts with cement pour over. That lasted thru a few hard rains, but was eventually washed out. Then they built this one, two huge culverts with cement and guard rails. It started failing within just a few years, actually after the first hard rain. I’ve only seen the water go over this bridge about 4-5 times, but that’s been enough to tear it up.
We do not get hard enough rains often enough to do damage but when we do, water gets under the culverts and cement and erodes the support out from underneath. Is what is needed is a bridge that is on pillars sunk down into bedrock. I don’t think that will happen.
Becky
Yesterday Bay got his first clip and bath... It was a little cold, but it was worth it (to me~)
More pics at the horse forum :~) Spring Horse Cleaning!
Wow! you were really busy, that’s a heck of a job:), but he looks great.
It will probably be another month or so before I bathe mine...I don’t like the cold water anymore then the horses do:)
Becky
And you’ve got 20 more degrees than I do on those sunny days.
I sure hope your weather isn’t too bad today... the forecast I saw on the news, you’re right at the edge of the severe warning, right?
Yeah, the local guy is saying we could miss the severe stuff...I think it is going to rain, we just shouldn’t get the tornados. I think they are saying that will stay to the east of us.
We are having warmer temperatures then you, but the water coming from the faucets has not warmed up yet:)...that’s what makes it cold to bathe one right now.
Becky
