This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I’ve got foal halters of all shapes and sizes. I’ll bring you some to try out. He sure is a cutie!
It’s so strange, I can see SOME pictures, but not others. I’ve gone and pleaded with the security guy again and he promised me he’d look into it today. :-/
The light hairs you see around the muzzle and underparts is just milky foal hair. They all pretty much look like that when they’re little. It’ll darken up as they shed. If he’s going to be gray you’ll start seeing just a few gray hairs here and there around the eyes and scattered over the body when he starts to shed out his foal hair.
LOL!! What a conversation!
Yeah, it’s bad when you mistake meconium stain for one of those! Dogs are so much easier.
Hope you make it back OK!
Have fun.
It was a really nice ride, definately worth the drive, although it's really not that much farther than most of the other places we go, maybe an hour and 30 minutes, so we'll definately give it a return visit and put it on the list of places we need to go when we have another Saddle Club Moot.
It was an overcast day so the pictures aren't quite as pretty as they could have been, but they're still fairly decent. I didn't take as many as I should have because some of the prettier places were also very rocky and my concentration was elsewhere. I'll try to do better the next time when I'm a little more familiar with the trails. Both BladeRider and HaveFaith took pictures too so they'll have to post some of theirs...
And I liked this one. We look like "The Two Crones of ColdAss Cave".
All we need is a bubbling cauldron to complete the scene! ;o)
And here's this week's Mystery Science Pic. It looks like either a dead alien's skull or a bizarre tribal mask. Let's see how many of you know what it REALLY is. ;o)
Was just packing up to go into town on errands, but wanted to let you know you posted them right! They are terrific pictures and places, as usual!
I’d say the bones are somebody’s pelvis, but without scale and other hints, I have no idea what!
DING...DING...DING...We have a winner ladies and gentlemen. It's a cow's pelvis.
I found one of these at my granddad's place out in the country when I was a kid and, being a city kid, I had no idea what it was but it looked like a mask to me, so I carried it home with me, and my poor Mother, bless her heart, let me. Every kid in the neighborhood got to play with it for like a week before the novelty wore off. And yes, I was a strange kid! ;o)
Looks like a perfect kitty cottage to me, all nice and dry and cozy.
When I came home this evening I found that the little bridge below my house was almost washed away today from the rain we got today. There was a whole crew with backhoes, and dozers down there working. It was hard to see in the dark the extent of the damage, but they said two cars could not cross at the same time. I’ll get pictures in the morning.

The party was at 3pm so I went down to the barn around 1 to start trying to load him up. He has never been a good loader and hadn't been loaded at all in over a year so I was prepaired for it to take an hour or so, but it only took 30 minutes of a little advance-and-retreat for him to finally get in and stay there. So I hauled him the 3 or 4 miles down the road to my Nephew's and unloaded and saddled up and took him for a warm-up ride over to the other side of the farm, just to shake the cobwebs out since he hadn't been ridden since the last birthday party I took him to a couple of years ago. It was thundering when I headed out, and as luck would have it, the bottom fell out just as I got to the far side, so we both got soaked before we got back. At that point I figured the pony rides were history so I left him tied to the trailer with my slicker over the saddle and went to help move all the outdoor tables and stuff onto the front porch. It was interesting there for a while with a whole class of pre-shcoolers in the house, but it finally quit after about an hour, just long enough for everybody to eat, so the pony rides and the hay ride were back on the agenda. The kids really seemed to enjoy it and I guess I did too. Tennessee was the perfect gentleman that he always is, walking slowly, being gentle, letting the kids pet him and posing for pictures. We even followed along behind the tractor and hay wagon when the hay ride headed out. I guess his years as a parade horse were worth something after all. He's a good ol' hoss!
Wow, that sounds bad! I knew y’all had gotten a lot of rain, but not THAT much. Hopefully they can get it fixed before it gives way entirely.
Those are really nice pictures...I have no clue about the bones. Do you know and just aren’t saying yet?
Becky
Frog, terrific picture of Tennessee! :~)
Nice to have the good ‘pony ride’ horse. :~)
Becky, I look forward to the pics, I didn’t realize you were getting dumped on. Glad you’re on the hill, hope you don’t get stuck up there! I’m not sure I’d want to cross at all if a guy is telling me it won’t hold two cars at the same time!
There’s an awful lot of squealing and carrying on happening out in the paddock this afternoon, I think spring is here.
Farrier comes tomorrow.
Thanks! Like I say, I wish I’d gotten some better ones. There was one stretch where we were in this really deep and narrow canyon (for lack of a better word) and the trail went back and forth across the creek bed at the bottom of it. The cliff walls were at least 50 feet high on both sides and it was gorgeous, but the creek bed was solid rock with bigger rocks scattered over it and you REALLY had to be careful in crossing so I didn’t take any down in there. But nobody even slipped so maybe I was just being paranoid about it. I’ll try to get some when we go back in May. There was also one section of trail that we couldn’t ride because there were turkey hunters down in there. It’s supposedly got a couple of cliff shelters where the creek has undercut it and you’re supposed to be able to stand 25 horses under there at one time. It sounded pretty cool, so I’m looking forward to seeing that too.
LOL! Yep, my girls have been being little huzzies too. Poor little 2yr old Whirl has had raging hormones and has just been pestering the stew out of Tennessee every time I let him out of his paddock, and he's like "Look here Chickie, I can't help you out with that, take it somewhere else!" ;o)
Incredible pictures again. You all sure get your exercise hiking up and down the hills and rocks to take pictures.
Wow - hope they get it fixed well soon. That’s nothing you want to hit coming home from work after dark. Looking forward to pictures though :)
Smart kitty - that’s the place to be if it’s going to rain.
