FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

EWWWWWWWWWWWW....snow AND mud...I hate that. We are dealing with a lot of mud too right now, but at least it’s from rain. It is suppose to get a little cold again around here this weekend. I”m hoping this will be the end of the cold. I need to start getting my garden planted.

I’d say letting her stand tied even with Bay there is better then nothing:) Since she won’t ever be ridden without him close by, I don’t see a problem.

And I'm not sure she really cares. It's Bay that cares.

(I know, I know, they are shedding horribly and you don’t want all that hair on your stuff:)

you know that's the reason ;~) He's such a mess right now.

I could saddle Cyn. She doesn't get hair and she's not nearly as bad as Bay is.

You sound as busy as I am:). I worked yesterday from 7-4, then picked up Tucker and Blake, took Blake to baseball practice, then home and stayed with them till after 10:00. Yesterday was Charlie and Kristy’s anninversary, and they all went to a Credence concert. Kristy’s mom kept JP.

I crashed as soon as I got home last night, but I’ll tell you, Susie and Bink, are driving me crazy. Maybe because they are being left so much, but they want to get up every morning around 5, play, eat, and go outside....I’m just not sure what’s going on with them...they’ve just been a bit neurotic for quit some time...Susie is obsessed with eating, she’s asking to eat all the time.

Well see then, I would be getting him out by himself and letting him stand tied till he didn't care...but that's me:). Since he won't be ridden without her tho, then it's rather a wasted point for him.

I think saddling them to stand/lunge is an important factor tho if the point is to get them back in the working frame of mind, JMO tho.

It will be an adjustment for Susie... If I went to work away from home here, there would be consequences with the neuroses of the dogs... Homer in particular.

Hope she adjusts to it fine. They just have to get used to a new routine. They say it helps to not make a big production out of getting home. same as the horses maybe... just walk in and walk around several minutes without paying her much mind, then pet her, but not when she’s in an ‘excited state of mind’.

Credence is still touring? We love Credence!

So how’s work?

I don’t really worry about Bay being in a working frame of mind... I could just take him out of the pasture and out on trail and he’d be the same, a little ‘fresh’ maybe. He’s beyond all that.

Cyn though, I want to make sure on. She’s younger, and grumpier. She’s always been great though, first ride out.

I’ve been leaving the front door propped open on the warmer days so she and the cat can go outside in the garden. I hate it when they have to be locked up in the house on nice days. I worry a tiny bit that she may dig out, but she never has up till now.

I guess Credence is still touring...I’m pretty sure that is who they told me they were going to see. It was just at one of the local casinos around here, not really a big concert. Jenny said it was in a small room, they had to get there 2 hours early to get good seats even with tickets...They really had a good time.

I like work...I’m hoping my body is going to adjust:)....my back is really giving me trouble. Yesterday, man I was really hurting for awhile. While Blake was practicing baseball, I ran home and got out my back massager and a back belt and took 800mg of ibuprofen...It’s better today, but doesn’t feel like it would take much to get it hurting again. I bought some tennis shoes, but they aren’t “good” ones. I’ve never had much trouble with my feet, but I’m wondering if a really good shoe would help with my back...I may go and try some on.

What have they got you standing on? Is it hard floor or padded? Could you bring something like a rubber mat to stand on?

Good shoes are a must... remember my experience with my feet a couple years ago? Get nurse shoes!

Oh my gosh, snowing!!??? I thought you all were in spring? I’m so sorry.

Behind the register I stand on a nice thick cushy rubber mat. If I have no customers, I have to go stand out at the end of the lane on the cement floor. Surprisingly enough, it was very slow in there yesterday. Also lifting and twisting to pick up the items on the belt, I think Is the biggest factor, and I don’t know if shoes will help that.

It stopped already, only lasted a couple minutes. It was just a shock! Weird spring weather!

Well, hopefully you’ll build up the strength for it in time, it’s just muscles you’re not used to using... Take the IB before you go in too. :~)

I’ve been taking the ibuprofen as often as I can...I just won’t take it on an empty stomach, that’s really bad for you. Anyway, I’m going to wear the back belt under my shirt today, and take the massager down to the building so when I get my lunch break I can use it. I go there for lunch. It’s nice to get away from the building for an hour. It will really be nice when that is home. I refuse to go into the employee lounge. On my 2 15 minute breaks I go sit in my truck and read a book.

I like to get away at lunch time too.

It appears the snow is going to stay stopped... it was a false alarm... a burp in the spring. :~)

Are you working today?

Are you sleeping at night? All this new activity? I’d have a hard time working that late... I shut down in the afternoon.

No Doze helps alot:)

I’m sleeping good at night as long as the animals don’t decide to get up and play chase across the bed:\, which they have been doing.

When I applied for the job I told them I wouldn’t work after 10:00 at night...I can make it fairly well till then, but I’m not a late night person. As long as it’s busy I don’t really feel tired till I’m heading home. Funny tho, once I’m home I have to watch a little TV before I can go to sleep. I’m becoming a TV junkie, I’ve watched more TV lately then I ever have in the past.

I haven’t heard of No Doze since college :~)

And I understand the unwind time... I need an hour in the morning before I’m active, and an hour at night to get de-active.

And my TV is on all the time, usually on news all day... not that I pay a lot of attention to it, it’s just background noise.

I get up about 2 hours before I have to be at work...I have to have my pot of coffee:)

I never use to like the TV on for noise, I enjoyed the quiet. I’ve got my DVR set to record a bunch of 30 minute sitcom type show...Becker, 2 1/2 Men, Fraiser, I Love Lucy, King of the Hill....LOL, great TV Huh!?.
