FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Speeding ticket eh? Heh... did the cop need a ladder to hand it to ya? :~)

Have I told the story before about the “shortest state trooper I’ve ever seen”?

Nah, but he was about 6 feet tall and his chin was about even with the bottom of the window.

And no, you've never told the “shortest state trooper I’ve ever seen” story, so tell it.

It’s not a real long story but I thought it was funny. One time I got pulled over in my Bronco, and it was on the freeway, so I wanted to get over as far as I could... for the officer’s sake... so I pulled way off to the side to be nice... I had the ditch on my right so I couldn’t go any more.

Well this state trooper decides he’s going to go around to the right anyway... and while my bronco wasn’t super tall, he was in the ditch, so that when he got over there, while I’m trying to reach across and roll the right window down, I could barely see the top of his hat and nose trying to peer in on his tippy toes.

I got the window down and said “Well! You’ve got to be the SHORTEST state trooper I’ve ever seen!” He was trying to look tough and he just couldn’t. I was just giggling at him, which did not help. He knew he looked silly trying to even see in the window. I thought it was funny. But he was stubborn at that point, he wouldn’t go back around the other side, we did the whole exchange that way.

Yeah - he wrote me a big ticket. I guess I could have offered to open the door. ;~)

LOL...loved your stories:)

Most of the the policemen here in Bixby are little men...I think they all have little/short men syndrome, and being a policeman makes them feel bigger:)

I just got home, spent the day in town playing with the boys. And Kristy’s mother and her friend came and measured the space I want to put my apartment in. They design nursing homes, and are going to lay out a possible floor plan for my apartment. The friends husband designed Charlies house. It was fun, but they sure don’t have a lack of idea’s:)...I kept having to remind them, I’m not going in debt for this:)....Kristy’s mother thinks I should make it “luxurious”, that scares me:). And a friend of Mack’s stopped by to visit. He’s a Harley man, (motorcycle type Harley:). He’s going to come get Mack’s bike tomorrow and take it and tune/clean it all up and help me sell it. He’s a really big, long haired burly Harley type man, but very very nice. AND, I had another man come to look at the dump truck, and is coming back tomorrow when Charlie will be there...so things are happening.

I'll be real interested to see your progress on that place. It's a big space now, your options are limited only by the imagination, I think! I think there should be some luxuries, some cool design features that make it nice and homey for ya.

There has been progress here:

Smoothed the dirt that ecurbh loosened up, back out nice and put some seed down. That's at least one item off my list for today...

Very good job...how far does the stones go that go toward end of your yard? all the way to the drive?

The space at the building right now is about 1800 square feet, but I’m cutting that in half. So the apartment will not be all that big. I want a nice big closet, next to the bath area that also contains the washer and dryer. I want the toilet and a small sink in a room of it’s own that can be reached from the living area and the bedroom area, with the bathtub/shower and another sink/vanity seperated from the toilet area. A small bedroom just big enough for the bed and a small dresser.

The rest of the place will be all open with the kitchen area against the wall that the computer and drums were on, with an island that will seat 3-4 as a kind of divider between kitchen and living room. at the back of the living area, I want to put a desk facing the windows, with bookcases/shelves/cabinet behind the desk. The TV will sit in the corner that is down by the windows, with the couch and 2 chairs sitting on a pretty area rug facing the TV. I should be able to see the TV and look out the windows from the desk.

I guess I should add one thing about the apartment...it’s all about the windows for me:)...I love sitting and watching the people in the park and the traffic going by, and the people going to Scott’s:)...the windows are the focus.

I can almost picture it!

The old stepping stones head into the middle of the yard just sortof go out and stop. They go out to where we used to have the tie area, that we’re now going to have as grass.

So it’s a path to nowhere. I figure we’ll put the picnic table at the end of them so they go somewhere. :~)

Now there's a nonsense sentence.

I think I need a nap :~)

I’m suppose to have a rough draft of what they come up with on the apartment by tomorrow, hopefully I can take a picture of it to show you all and get some input from you all...so many things to consider.

Anyway...I don’t think paths have to lead anywhere:)...most paths across yards that are worn in the grass just kind of fizzle at certain points...the steps will keep the grass from wearing to the point it would fizzle anyway, and look tidier, as you would say:)...I’ve always got a kick out your use of the word “tidy”...LOL.

It is ‘tidy’ to have the stones ;~), and they decrease the wear and tear on the lawn right at the porch quite a bit... the path sortof directs traffic.

It must be a free day in Texas because I think I'm the only one at this hotel in Laredo that isn't a DPS officer. I guess they have some kind of meeting going on. Most seem nice but they kind of worry me too. I went out to pull my truck closer and thought I hope they don't give me a ticket for seatbelts. Also, I was being real careful to park in an allowed spot.

LOL - I got in to work today and found out we are replacing all of our trash cans with pretty mesh ones. Where did that money come from??

Maybe it's to make you feel better about throwing money away. :-)

My issues at work have been mainly personality conflicts with another coworker in addition to a high volume work load, and taking on other responsibilities that are NOT in my job description. The coworker in question has the fantastic ability to make life miserable for the rest of us while simultaniously turning it all around to make herself the victim when she wonders why we want nothing to do with her. She is out for blood, and my position, so I've had to work double time to cover my own butt.
