This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, tell her she doesn’t have to run all the way out here, she can drop it off at Jenny’s shop. She’s welcome to come out here, but I know she’s busy, and maybe not up to coming all the way here. It’s what ever is most convenient for her.

JMHO here - I’m okay with you taking the cash and going on a gambling junket - and I’m serious about that. I think all of us would be fine with you doing whatever you felt like with it.

Heh...I confess, I used my burn barrel here once. After that I never got up the guts to use it again...
Most of my nightmares over the years (including last night) involve fire. Last night there was fire in the walls of my place and we couldn’t get to it to put it out. Every time it seemed like we’d gotten it all, flames would start up somewhere else.
Cold Hard Cash it is! If it’s ok with Jenny, I’ll bring it by this afternoon and get the boys’ hair cut at the same time...
I’ve got to run to my agency and pick up my paycheck and then grab the boys some lunch...then we’ll swing by.
Burn barrels aren’t that scary :~)
Next time we burn a big stick pile we’ll be sure to have you over... It’ll be good for you :~)

The flames went wayyyy up in the air! And there were sparks!
I think my Mom takes most of the blame for this particular phobia. We heated with wood, and she was always afraid eventually the house would burn down due to some stray spark.
We did have a lot of bonfires growing up, and somehow those never bothered me. Dunno why. I think because we always had them well out in an open space (due to Mom’s fears) and kept sand and water around for dousing it if need be.
Well, we do put a screen over it to catch fly ash in the summer. It’s not without some risk to burn paper, because big pieces of ash can fly up off of it.
But the reality of it is I’ve tried to light enough fires around here to know that one little piece of burned ash and spark would not cut it. It usually takes every piece of paper trash we’ve got and a lot of fussing and nursing to get a fire going.
My husband has finally decided to sell his saddle. He turned up allergic to horses years ago, but was hoping that he might get over it with the shots . . . but now OSHA has banned the shots because they feel the risk of the horse shots outweighs the danger (that's only if you're not working with horses, but . . . )
Anyhow, it's a very nice Italian Pariani hunting saddle, probably was custom made for a large man (it's outside standard sizes - about a 21 or 22" seat - my husband's 6'6" with very long legs and it fit him pretty well.) Pariani was the first to make the forward seat saddle, and this is probably a mid-70s version, all hand made. Has large knee rolls and a very deep seat, it was renovated by a saddler here locally about 10 years ago (new girth billets, new stuffing, restitched where needed). Has good quality heavy stirrup leathers and the heavy steel stirrups. The tree seems to me to be about a medium width, it fit the big warmbloods that my husband rode, but it also fits my skinny mare (it just doesn't fit ME!)
I'd keep it for a spare and for long rides (it is extremely secure and comfortable), but it's just too big for me to ride in -- I bounce around like a BB in a boxcar!
Anyhow, what's the best way to go about selling this thing?
9 out of 10 Boy Scouts recommend saving your dryer lint, especially when you run a load of cotton towels or underwear.
It doesn't create ash, it lights even when it's wet, and it burns really hot. I've started some campfires with it that I really believed were going to need a dose of lighter fluid . . . .
Probably ebay, unless you have a local shop that would take it on consignment.

I’ve wondered about dryer lint nowadays though, now that so many clothes are treated with fire retardant.
I'm at work, but when I get home I'm going to take hubby's saddle out and take a picture of it. It's in a canvas saddle bag and it's been cleaned and oiled regularly (I just do it occasionally when I do mine.)
Funny thing about the Parianis is that they have a lot of rise in the pommel - almost look like an Australian stock saddle. My husband loved it, we used to do long trail rides and he never got sore. He jumped as high as 3' and never got hit by that pommel, either.
It's worked as recently as last fall. I do tend to use the white lint from washing the Tshirts and undershorts though. That's pure cotton.
