This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Right now it sounds like he’s not real interested in the baby - he did say he’s getting out of horses over all. We’ll see after he sees a picture of him.
I remember you posting pictures of the fire where you burned along the road? I think. I’ve got a phobia about fire and burning a pile of leaves is hard for me but I remember seeing that picture thinking WOW I’d have 67 hoses pouring on it :)
Yes, mouses do wear out. And they’re cheap.
I think you’ll get used to working and being around people in time... but I bet the first week of it wears you out!
I was hoping who knows who wouldn’t call too. Does he still owe for veterinary or other expenses for the baby? He could fink out yet...
I have a lazier mouse. But it’s been dropped and banged around pretty good. I probably just need a new one.
I wondered what the plural for computer mouses/mice was too:)

I swear, you and Bob think alike. Bob already told him if he was planning on selling the colt to let us know. He also said he wants to breed Friday to Tuffy for a next year’s foal. That’s after saying no more horses - we’re getting out of horses - for months. It’s a disease, if it’s not him, it’s me :)
Lazier=laser:)

Yes he could/may - he’s definately strange. Just today’s vet visit is going to run $500 at least I think, and he’ll owe for board for the colt for four months. The breeder said tell the vet to put the bill on his account but then he said, no - just go ahead and pay it and we’ll settle up later.
That is a gorgeous baby. I love lepeord spots.
Glad Friday is OK, too. Is she yours? She looks like the real mama, so it wasn’t a transplant was it?
My husband was just burning a couple of boxes in a barrel last month and some cinders floated over and landed on our hay rolls. Burned all four 6ft. rolls in that stack. It was so cold the outside water and hoses were frozen. He couldn’t do anything but watch it burn.
Yikes!
Thanks, yes Friday is our mare and she is the real mom. Leopards are my favorites too and I’ve always thought Friday was movie star pretty. She looks pretty rough right now but she *cleans* up good.
See - that’s what I’m terrified of. If I lit a fire it would burn half of Nevada.
Thanks - he’s a pretty kid except for his crooked legs and Becky told me what to do about that. The vet reconfirmed that today - keep him confined for a couple of weeks.
I would not attempt to burn piles this size without water available right at the site. Brush piles like these don’t really have cinders that float off...that’s usually just paper products.
As long as everything around the piles is wet, which I would do, wet the area around the piles, they “should” :) stay confined. That’s the experience I’ve had in the past.
The pictures of the fire I posted a few years ago was when I was burning off the tall grass that grows behind our house. Before I lit that fire I had buckets of water all along the area I was going to burn, and my driveways are natural fire stops, and I was burning between them. When ever I burn anything, I also prepare ahead of time. When I do burn a stack of old feed bags, I put them in an area that has nothing around the floating embers can ignite, and I also have water close by.
It has been a long time since I burned brush piles this size but I have done it before. Preparation is the key:)

Is there anyway you can 'uglify' that pretty baby if who-knows-who comes snooping around? Don't the Gypsies know some horse-uglifying tricks?
I wondered if you had noticed his legs...figured you did:).
It’s so hard tho to keep a young one confined, because they are so much fun to watch when they run and play.
Becky
I let one get away from me in the woods at the lake once and the neighbor had this rubber flap on a stick thing that saved my butt.
Way back when we first moved here, we had a fire get away from us...Luckily everyone around here at that time usually burned off their property every year anyway, so it wasn’t that big a deal, but it did go up the road about 1/4 of a mile before it fizzled out. We called the people up the road and told them it was coming just in case. Here where I live everyone pretty much does some burning every year and occasionally they lose control. I’ve never know a structure to burn around here. We keep the area around the house mowed short and cleared so there is not much danger of houses burning. And burning occasionally will help the grass to come back better.
In recent years we have had people build fairly close to us:(, and put in nice sod yards, I’d hate to be the cause of those burning. But all those people have been burning their brush piles since the ice storm...with no mishaps. So I guess I can burn mine,
Becky
Well, we have wind and thunder going on right now, and temps are dropping:(. We have a 90% chance of ice pellets coming down tomorrow. And it was close to 70 this morning when I was in town.
