FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I put the guy wanting to look at Harley off till today. Yesterday was just a bad day. I’d have liked to put him off till next weekend, but he seems really anxious to come so I’ll give it a shot. Harley just doesn’t look all that great...winter coat, that cut, not rode really in so long...I’d have like to give it another week, altho when I lunged him yesterday he is not gimping at all. I’d have liked to get a blanket on him for a week or so too to help polish up his coat, and ride him some...but, Oh well. If the guy doesn’t buy him, which I really don’t expect, I am going to take Harley over to Debbies, the place I barn sit sometime, and she is going to body clip him for me, so that he’ll look better to go to the sale at the end of March if that is what it comes down too.

Yeah - he might look better with some TLC, but if this guy is a good horseman, he’ll be able to see through horses looking a little rough in winter too. I’ll hope for the best!

Impatiens I think... I think they’re the only thing that does really well in the shade.

Good morning!

Be afraid, very afraid :) I'd be a little happier if there was some warming in the "Global Warming". We got four more inches of snow last night.

At least it's melting.

Momma kitty, my first feral cat - she's liking the snow as much as I am.

Little Sister, truely her mother's daughter :)

I don’t even care if there are beaches as long as the weather is warm:)

Well the people came and looked at Harley, and Harley did great. The man and his 13 year old daughter both rode him, and Charlie did too. They didn’t seem to mind the rough coat or the cut on his leg.

The little girl really liked him. She says her horse is hard to stop, the man liked him because it was easy to get him to move. He doesn’t ride all that well, but talked sensibly about taking 2-3 months at really working on improving his skills before really taking the horse out. He said they spent alot of time and money building their barns and fence to make the place horse proof...so all in all it sounds like it would be a good home, and they talked very positive about liking the horse, and mentioned the other 3 they had looked at didn’t seem all that good....I’m crossing my fingers.

I should mention our weather turned perfect too. Still had to have a jacket, but in the sun It was very pleasant, and no wind.

When they left here the man said he’d let me know....I’m not sure how long they will think about it. I think I’m going to cancel getting him body trimmed for a week or so. If it doesn’t have to be done...why do it. Give them some time.

Sounds reasonable.

I hope it works out... both both you and Harley!

We were pretty productive today, puttered on yard cleanup issues. I played with my pond and moved some of the gravel and plants and snails out from the fish tank. If they survive well, I may move the fish soon. I’m excited about it. Last night in only got down to 40.

Talked about fencing off the yard for reseeding but decided we were still too early for that. Hard to believe it’s really only February!
