This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
So, did you feel the earthquake?
Becky
And cleaning out the horse trailer isn't doing it for you? :~)
Ice. I can't even imagine. I am willing it to be spring here and so far it's working. Haven't even had blankets on the horses at night. It's been dry and sunny not ~too~ cold.
Want to come visit Washington? ;~) I never thought I'd invite anyone to visit here in February, but it's been nice!
Why don’t you put your saddle and stuff on a rack in the shop and just lead him in there to saddle up. Seems like I remember there being enough open space in there that he shouldn’t feel too crowded.
I was going to wait till tomorrow to clean the trailer, suppose to be warmer:)
I try not to even think about spring till more towards the end of March. March is the hardest month to get thru, because we’ll get a few days of nice weather that will convince you that winter is over, then wham...we’ll get snow. Some of our worst accumulations of snow have been in March.
Becky
You know that’s not a bad idea...altho there is really no place to tie him.
Actually I was just whining tho:)...Once I get everything organized in the house, it shouldn’t be all that hard.
Becky
Yeah - I have a feeling there will be some more cold days ahead to burst my bubble. We’ve gotten snow as late as April.
OK so I won’t plant flowers yet, but I am excited about it.
A tie spot could be made, I bet. I’d worry a little about theft there. I’d want a locking cabinet of some kind to get them out of sight.
I realize they weren’t locked in the trailer either, but they were out of plain view.
Well, I did actually have a lock on the tack door. I locked it when I knew I wouldn’t be around for awhile, or wasn’t going to ride for a few days.
I guess I’ll just cross that bridge when I come to it. For now tho, I will be bringing everything in the house. It’s going to be a while before I ride. The weather and my schedule you know....if the weather is good, I’m out doing other things. I hate getting out on cold days, which would be the best time to do errands...
Becky
Gotcha. Mine are in the house now too... and I haven’t packed them out all winter :~D
I know I’ve said this before, but I love riding in winter. But then I don’t have the near constant rain that you do. That would be a real bummer.
I think it’s a different kind of winter.
And speaking of brutal, I was watching the news last night and they said that they had a new record low of -31* in ND yesterday. Now I don't know about you, but that's just insane! They took a glass of water and threw it up in the air and it just exploded into powder snow. I want no part of that!
That’s not even in the realm of human habitat. Yikes.
I’ve often wondered how people in Canada survive in the winter. To them, the Dakota’s are “going south”. It’s just unimaginable to me.
A friend who lived in Alaska said if you didn’t bundle up completely including your face in winter you could die on the way to the mailbox.
That’s just no way to live.
Maybe they could use a little global warming :~)
No - I just found out about it. It is a good bit north and east of me I think.
Well that’s good. I’d hate to think of that nice new kitchen getting all shook up.
LOL You and me both.
Record low for the part of Vermont where I grew up is -50...we get -30 most winters.
And yeah, it’s cold. It’s a totally different feel than usual cold...more prickly than just cold.
But is that ambient temperature or Wind Chill? I can believe Wind Chill numbers getting down that low, but plain ol' ambient temps that low are just nearly unbelieveable to me for someplace other than the arctic. That falls into the "Just Damn!" category. ;o)
