FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

I hope he shows back up, he sounds like a nice cat!

He may, of course, be working the racket that my parents' cat did one time. My sister and her husband kept her while my parents were out of the country, and she sneaked out of the house. They were in an absolute PANIC for a week, we were putting up posters and searching the area between their house and my parents' (which included 2 interstate highways and a large river). Then she just strolled up to their back door, meowing, fat as a pig.

Turned out she had been going from door to door in the neighborhood, spending a little time in each household and doing the "starving Siamese kitty" act. I guess she came back when nobody believed she was starving any more, since she was as round as a basketball . . . .

Duchess, good luck with the foals.

Well Chester turned up after all around seven. I was reading a book, and I look down and there he was, staring up at me. He keeps trying out a bunch of the chairs to see which he likes best, and alternates between that and exploring his new digs. If he decides that this is just his evening home, and he has other places that he frequents, that's fine with me. At the very least, it keeps the peace with the other cats. It's really uncanny, though, how he's just taken to being here.

...I've been adopted by an orange tabby cat...

Hey Beaker! Congrats on the new room mate! He sounds like a keeper, and a real character too. Pets that seem to "find you" are always the best!

Great pics of the dogs AAM! I LOVE that one of Miss Ruby launching herself off the bank. She doesn’t do anything half way does she?!

She's ridiculous, isn't she? In person it's even funnier -- she starts dancing and whining when she sees the bumper fall, and then she starts champing her teeth. It sounds like castanets. I hope she doesn't fracture a molar!

Sorry to hear about your aunt Becky. It’s sad when they all start to go. But I’m glad to hear that your brother is going to be going to the funeral with you and is going to be moving back home soon. I’m sure it’ll be fun to have him around on a more regular basis. Y’all be careful on your trip!

Good luck with the accountant today. I know you’re sick of having to deal with all that legal stuff.

And I really hated to hear about Harley cutting himself. Hopefully it’s just a minor thing that will heal up quickly. Maybe you can fix the problem of the dirt caving out the back of his stall by hauling some of those nice big rocks you seem to have an abundance of and stacking them all along the bottom of the outside wall, then shovel the dirt back in there from the inside. Seems like it’s always something with horses doesn’t it!

Thanks for letting me rant yesterday, and be on the pity wagon:)...Charlie did come up and look/doctor the horse. He says it’s not a bad cut at all, and he filled in the dirt at the back of the stall. He is going to put some rocks behind the barn to help hold it all. I’ve done that before, but Harley likes to paw them away, so I guess it’s something as long as he is here, I’ll need to keep a watch on.

Once again, thanks for all the support and thoughts, it does really help having all you guys:)

Becky

Good morning.

Our weather has taken a turn for the better, at least for a few days. I’m getting ready to head to town to get the oil changed in my truck. Charlie is going to do the tune up so I’ll be set tomorrow for the trip to Kansas. I’ll have to get up at 3:30-4:00, yikes.

Becky

Yikes is right.

Glad the weather is going to be good for the trip anyway.

I’d like to work outside some more today but we’ll see... I think I pulled something in my neck yesterday, it’s really stiff today.

Maybe coffee will loosen it up. :~)

It all went south of me. It was rather nasty early yesterdy morning, but cleared off to be a gorgeous, although incredibly windy, day. I haven’t heard from BladeRider yet, but hopefully it bypassed her too.

BladeRider and her daughter Amy and I had a really nice ride on Saturday. It was cloudy, but warm, with temps in the 60’s. It was only supposed to be the 3 of us because Kari was down in Louisiana, attending her aunt’s funeral, and Shirley called before daylight and left a message on my cell phone that his wife was ill and he was taking her to the doctor, but we unexpectedly met up with some other people that I knew at the trailhead and rode with them. There was a couple, and an older man that I used to ride with a lot several years ago, plus a young couple that none of us had ever met before. So there ended up being 8 of us.

We went to the place with the big cliff shelter called TheNarrows. Neither BladeRider nor Amy had ever been there before and they really enjoyed it. The couple, Randy and Debra, that I used to ride with were the ones that have the really fast horses, and that’s part of the reason I quite riding with them, but now that I have Bob and Hope, it’s kinda fun. Blade and Jake did real well at keeping up too. Jake was cantering but that was ok with Amy because otherwise he would be pacing and that is definately NOT fun. We weren’t as fast as Randy, but Debra was riding a new little 3yr old buckskin that was REALLY pretty, and fast enough for 99% of the population, and we were keeping up with her, so that was good enough for me.

Sounds like a fast trip :~) I can picture it now. :~)

Glad you’re OK, jeepers. I don’t like reading about that stuff when I haven’t heard from you guys.

I just got an e-mail from Blade and she didn’t mention any bad weather so I assume it missed her too.

The last half of it was fast, but the part where we were going down through all the hills 'n' hollers wasn't. Had to take your time there or you'd end up in a heap at the bottom of a hill. Here's some pics of the trip...

Me and Hope, Blade, and Amy on Jake...

I had posted a pic of this tree a good while back, but got a wild hair to climb it on Saturday, just so you could see how big it is. I was probably 10-12 feet off the ground...

Why we call it TheNarrows...
