FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Those marmalade cats ARE the best!

Orlando is the British equivalent of Morris, only older.

Good morning.

Beaker, hope your little friend adopts you:)...cats can be very nice companions, but they can be little snots too sometimes:).

It’s very cold and raining here today, and I have to doctor Harley’s feet:(....I hate winter:)

Ugh...

Would Harley stand in a bucket? Bay won’t... he thought I was trying to kill him.

Shoer comes today... but he didn’t say what time!

Well, yeah, I think he would, but as you said, bleach is pretty caustic. The vet said not to get it on hair, it would burn him...

I’m using a spray bottle set on stream. I can pretty much direct it right where I want it. Then I hold the foot up for a few minutes so it has a chance to soak in some. It’s really not hard, or take that long, I just hate standing out there in the cold, and now the rain too.

I have to run to the feed store this morning, I may look to see if they have anything that is designed for thrush. If it doesn’t cost an arm and leg, I may get something, but even after one treatment, I thought his feet looked better already, and the vet said I’d only have to do it 3-4 days.

Ah- well, I was just wondering if pouring an inch or two of it in the bottom of a bucket would be good.

I just hate trying to treat their feet when they are just going to put it back in the mud. Feel for ya. Good luck with it. :~\

I’ve thought the same thing. I was wondering about that new bleach they make for toilets, that’s a gel and clings some...LOL

Gel bleach? I’ve never heard of that!

Well, I’m not sure it’s just pure bleach, may have other things, so that wouldn’t work. I’ve just seen commercials on TV about it. By the time I will be at the store again, I’ll probably be done treating him anyway. It was just one of those crazy things you think of while out treating...Just got in from doing it. He is so good. I just put the halter on him, and he stands right there and lets me treat all four, so it’s not that hard. I don’t have to drag him up to tie him to get it done.

Good. I hope it works fast like she says.

The trim will help too... From what they say, a proper trim is most of the battle... keeps the frog engaged and healthy.

Still dark out here... waiting for it to get light so I can expect my farrier. Last time he showed up really early :~\

Well, the farrier has been and gone... and then we (ecurbh) got up on the roof and cleaned all the winter-down limbs and debris off, and now I think we’ll probably just veg out the rest of the day.

Did you have Bay shod, or just trimmed? What did the farrier say about his feet? Are you happy with the results?

Still raining here, even had some thunder. I haven’t done anything but lay on the couch and watch TV. I am going to the kids tonight to have supper. They had decided to have Valentine supper together at Jenny’s house rather then go out. Travis is suppose to grill steaks, I made some taboli.

Need to go get Harley’s feet done, then get cleaned up to go.

Hi ladies,

No pictures of Chester yet-I have to go out and get a new camera. But, he's here to stay. He came in last night around midnight and hasn't left. Right now, he's sleeping on the chair downstairs like he's been here his whole life. It's really uncanny. I'm uncertain as to whether or not I should put out a found ad in the paper- I'm too afraid some loony might pick him up.

Well I don’t think I’d put an ad in the paper - just watch for ads for lost cats. What are you going to name him?

Aw... take some pictures of Chester. When they just move in like that... who are you to question it? :~)

Beaker... remember the woman who called me about Homer?

Bay got reset in front, still barefoot in the back one more cycle till he’ll need backs, I’m really pleased with how Bay is moving, so yes, I’m pleased. He feels great. Sometime I’ll get pictures.

ecurbh and I think steaks sound great. We’re going to head to town and get some big ole steaks to grill.

Hair.. I remember that story about Homer. It's what made me think twice about putting an ad in the paper. I will certainly watch for the ads, and be honest if I see someone who might be looking for him. Other than that, he's quite happy here. Who am I to say no?

Duchess, I've named him Chester. He just looks like a Chester. My first impulse was to name him Garfield, then Morris, then I tried Chedder, but it just didn't work.

Welcome to Chester! (Sometimes they just name themselves.)

We had a busy day today in the Hunting Retriever world . . . big training day.

Miss Shelley of course was her normal, unflappable, obedient self . . .

. . . and Miss Ruby proved to be a pretty good gun dog for a year and a half old wild woman . . .

"Are we partners?"
"Yeah, Mom! We're partners!"
