They do often have to go potty after a meal, but I put them in there and close the door for the meal. When they’re done... then take them right outside.
It changes the association with being put in the crate to something good is all.
Little pups I didn’t give water to at night, but adults that have the bladder for it, like Barkley, we do give water when we’re going to be a long time.
I understand... Heck... when Casey the guest Schnauzer puppy was here... remember him? Kay brought a play pen for him that we kept him in... maybe something like that in a corner of the room would be a good happy medium the pup would be happy in? We actually ended up not even closing him in the crate, but just left it in there with the door open and he was pretty content to go in there to sleep!
Awwww, what a cute little booger! I feel for ‘em though, with a screaming puppy all night long.
I guess it’s good that puppies and kids are so cute, otherwise you might kill them! ;o)
Hmmmm, her butt says “Yes I’m ready” but her bag says “Nah, not a chance”. We’ll believe the bag.
Yikes... ok Beaker... batter down your hatches.
Dang Beaker, stay safe!! I hope you don’t LIVE upstairs! If you do, you might want to pay a visit to somebody’s closet who lives downstairs.
Just for scale, that little cubby hole in the center left is big enough to for me to comfortably squat down in...
Bob telling the other horse "I think we're lost!", which we were...
This rock was as big as a small house, just sitting there by itself. I assume it split off of a nearby cliff and rolled there, quite a while ago judging by the size of the trees that have grown in around it. Check out the texture of it in the next picture...
A lot of the rocks out in the Forest have this kind of formation. It looks kinda like a honeycomb or swiss cheese. I don't know what causes it, but it's cool.
The big waterfall that we found in a dead-end cove while we were lost. Sometimes being lost is a good thing! ;o) ...
Another waterfall. Doesn't look too big does it...
Now it does...
I'll post the ones from this weekend in a few minutes.
Oh very cool pictures! I think the rock with the swiss cheese look is definitely water damage, but a long time ago, when the rock was soft.
I would love to go by the waterfall... would the horses walk under it? I don’t think Bay would want to...
The group Kari and I went with was a Mounted Ministries group. We met the girl who invited us on the Cowboys for Christ ride we went on a few weeks ago. They were very nice folks. We ended up with 18 or so in our group. I think they were all riding gaited except for maybe 2 or 3, but we waited on them when they got behind. ;o)
This picture is looking back down on the lake and dam that we crossed 2 pictures up. Man, that climb was STEEP!...
The view off the other side of the ridge...
Riding around one of the other lakes...
A good place to turn 'em loose and Rack On!...
A different dam...
It was a nice place, a little over a 2 hour drive to get there, which is kinda far, but not too bad when you split the gas. Plus we like new places so we went for it. They had 12 miles of trails, but we didn't ride them all because the ride didn't start until noon, plus a lot of the trails were steep or rocky or were winding in and out of trees so that you felt like you were pole-bending. Thankfully Bob is pretty good about moving over when I give him a little inside leg, otherwise I'd have no kneecaps left, but I heard quite a few howls from people who weren't quite so fortunate.
Well, Bob didn't either, but the horse in front of him went so he did too. Not completely under it, but close enough that I could stick my hand in it.
I felt a little like we were pole bending on a couple of Becky’s trails! Not bad at a walk but it was a little challenging at the rack!
I’d love to see if I could get Bay to swim in that lake... although it doesn’t look like there’s a safe way down at least right there.
Was there a stretch where you could go in?
Hey, Frog:)
Great pictures...love the rocks in the first set.

This whole area was apparently used for phosphate mining a long time ago because we saw several old mine entrances. I think the lakes were a result of that so they just cleaned up the hollows and dammed them and made real lakes out of them. The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency manages it, along with 15 or 20 other sites across the state. Here's a map of the trails if you want to check it out.
Figured you would. I’m just glad Kari had her camera that day because I forgot mine. But I made up for it Saturday. I had mine and she forgot hers. We might have a whole brain between us if we really work at it! ;o)
We always put the pups and the crate on the bed between us to start off so they feel close and can hear us breathing. That seems to help. Once they don’t cry, we set them down and give them a small treat when they go in. And use the command, kennel up every time. Wish them luck from me, some puppies are stubborn little critters :)
That's what's always concerned me about taking the horses to the ocean... I mean... it's not just little waves, it's surf! Cool place. :~) I'd go back and try again when it's really hot out! Looks like a good place to go then.
Well, I’m gonna go hit the couch for a bit. I trimmed horse feet again today and I’m beat. Talk to y’all tomorrow!
Hope all is well there and you get through the wind with no problems and no damage.
What incredible pictures. The rocks we have here that have the swiss cheese are volcanic but they are little rocks, the size of a baseball or so, not the size of a house.
