They are not using the crate as punishment...just when they are busy with other things and cant keep an eye on him.I understand... Heck... when Casey the guest Schnauzer puppy was here... remember him? Kay brought a play pen for him that we kept him in... maybe something like that in a corner of the room would be a good happy medium the pup would be happy in? We actually ended up not even closing him in the crate, but just left it in there with the door open and he was pretty content to go in there to sleep!

Maybe AAM can weigh in on the issue, she has a lot of dog experience. Blade Rider raises Setters, too, isn't that right?
I really love big dogs- Labs, newfs, and great danes especially. However, I also have a fondness for cockers and (heh) mini dachshunds. My trainer breeds and raises the minis, them, and they have wonderful little personalities. I had a cocker spaniel for 18 years, and he was the best darn dog I ever had.
I'm going to be shutting down for the night. We have really high winds up here, (55 mph when it gusts) and I have to go and move my car so that it's out from under the tree.... I can feel the house move upstairs when it really gets going.
