This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
At least you won’t have to worry over her with Tiff home. Ask Tiff if she knows the date Kat2 was bred and if she has had any previous foals. Then Tiff can come up with a fairly close due date.
She’d know the date she was bred... she brought the stallion over to do it.
It was some kind of story of a friend who was keeping a stallion for a short while for someone else... and I’m not sure the stallion owner is even aware he was bred or to who. I think Tiff just turned him out in the pasture with her.
Like I said, it was a rather convoluted story.
Tiff bought Kat2 right around the time Becky was here. I think she was delivered, in fact, while Mia was here.
...Meaning she's never bred her before, and I don't know if she knows her history.
Well, this ought to be interesting :)
Is she aware that it might be a little bit illegal to breed someone else’s stallion to her mare without the stallion owner’s knowledge or permission? Especially pasture breeding where she was risking serious injury to the stallion.
I only asked questions for the first part of the story... then I decided there were just too many.
Have I mentioned before that she's sortof a "flies-by-the-seat-of-her-pants" kind of gal?
The good news is I think Kat2 was the only one who took. I think she had all three mares out there, Kat2, Mia, and Cassie... who she has since given away.
I’m hoping she had the sense to not have Tell in there with them, but who knows. She didn’t ask me how to do it.
LOL - yeh, you’ve mentioned the flies by the seat of her pants. And I’m like you - I’d have stopped asking questions too - I’d have had a feeling that I wouldn’t have wanted to know the answers. Where’s the popcorn graphic :)
I have to chime in here and say that Kat2 does look awfully pregnant and sunk in around her tail. Has the tailhead gotten soft and spongy? She doesn’t look like she’s waxing over, so that’s a relief.
That horse really is such a tool sometimes. I think it just adds to his charm, because he really is such a HUGE baby.
She leads a rather charmed existence, always has. Here I sit, worrying about everything all the time, and without giving it a lot of thought, she does stuff she doesn’t even know is dangerous or risky and usually gets away with it.
She’s a marvel to me. :~)
Beaker... I didn’t go in and feel her, just looked and took pictures over the fence. I guess time will tell...
I’ll ask again when she was bred when Tiff calls. I may be remembering wrong. I just can’t get too involved or I’ll bring all my worries with me and probably mess up Tiff’s winning streak. :~)
God watches over fools and drunks and people like Tiff - good thing huh? I’ve got a feeling everything will be fine so don’t worry unless she goes out of town again in April :)
That's right! :~)
Well, from the looks of her udder, it doesn’t seem as impending as it does looking at her body....but:), have said that, I’ve heard they can bag up overnight...sooo...
Wish Tiff luck for me:)
Becky
I will indeed :~)
You might want to rethink that:)...Jenny said he screamed all night, was screaming today when ever he was crated.
Becky
Sounds like Beaker could maybe get that one if she called at the right time :~)
Poor monster. Hope they find a system he can get used to.
I have several friends who raised puppies and used crates, and I was impressed how their dogs were happy to go in their crates at night or at times when they needed to be out of the way. I tried for nearly 3 weeks to crate train Susie...she wanted no part of it. Cried in it all the time. With a small dog it finally didn’t seem to be that big of an issue, so I gave up. With a big dog in the house with children, I think a crate is a great thing, so I hope he adjusts.
Becky
Well, I think being crated when there is playing and fun going on will always be hard, he may never like that.
I crated Gidget at night until she was old enough to be potty trained, and whenever she was left alone in the house till she was nearly two. She was OK with it, but as a puppy I gave her things in there, I fed her all her meals in there, and when I was leaving her for awhile I gave her a busy toy... either a kong with peanut butter inside some other kind of chew toy thing... rawhide or something.
This pup is young to be made to sleep alone. He might cope better at 12 weeks than 6. I’d put him in your little crate and put it where he can see them at night... see if that helps.
Also... the crate should never be punishment. I think the key is to put him in there tired... play hard then put him in there with something to chew on?
I dunno. Maybe the others have better suggestions. Mine all ended up in bed with me.
They are not using the crate as punishment...just when they are busy with other things and can’t keep an eye on him.
I was always told not to let them eat or drink in a crate because then they’ll have to go, and the point of the crate is for potty training issues.
