FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

My farrier always uses at least 3 nails all the way around. They might be placed differently on each foot, but I think there's always at least 3.

Same with mine. 3 all the way around.

Harley stands a little toe-out, so that could make him inter-fer. I really hate to criticize a farrier’s work, because I am not one. With all the problems you have been having with losing shoes, you can see the patch work he has been doing.

Remember, you ride a lot and that puts on alot of stress. Does he reset the old shoes or new each time? You have to be wearing those shoes out pretty fast.

I haven’t been on much lately due to the fact that our house sold in 3 weeks.!!!!!!! We have been busy packing and stressing out. We have to be out on Weds. and then we will go to the cabin until our house in Aiken is ready. They said it should be done by 9-15 but I’m not holding my breath. It always takes longer.

I was supposed to go to work for Countrywide in Aiken but with all the bad publicity they’ve been getting this week, I wonder if I even have a job.

Will keep all updated as we get closer to going to Aiken.
I’m looking forward to a month with Waylon down at the cabin with nothing to do. This packing has really been something. 17 yrs. of accumalation is hard to pack.

Good Morning:)

estrogen: congratulations on selling your house so quick, and hope the move goes smoothly. Will you be able to make the move all in one trip? Have fun at your cabin.

Thanks to everyone on your viewpoints about Harley’s feet. I’m anxious to get on and go for a ride. It seems I can tell better on him then just watching.

Becky

Congratulations on the house sale! The idea of packing up and moving from here seems daunting, and I haven’t been here ~that~ long. Good luck!

Hope you have a good ride... are you going early?

Today I have a little more work to do, then barn cleaning and new hay.

No, I won’t be going this morning. Fri is JP day:) If I ride today it will be this evening. It is actually not suppose to be as hot for the next few days. Sat and Sun highs are only in the 80’s. Might have to get out the jackets:)

Tonight may be cool enough to at least take a turn around the arena. To see how he feels. But for sure tomorrow morning I’ll go.

I just checked the forecast and we do have some good chances of rain this weekend so I’ll probably ride for sure this evening. I really am anxious to see if he feels different.

We could use some rain now...isn’t that something...after all the rain we had, now I wouldn’t mind some. I’ve been keeping the pasture nicely mowed, and I think some rain now would really help. Also with the bobcat coming today, I’ll be able to move those big branches that fell out of that tree that is right in the middle of Harley’s side, and then mow all those tall weeds down. Will improve the way it looks out there tremendously.

Well yeah - now that it’s green, you need rain ~every~ week :~)

We might get more rain... strange summer!

I know those pictures of out in the woods looked really green, but here at the house where I have mowed it’s burning up pretty quickly. The trees and everything looks good, but even the weeds that haven’t been mowed are shriveling up.

Hi ther estrogen! We’ve missed you but I figured you were probably covered up with moving related stuff. We moved a couple of years ago after living in our little house for 17 years and it was a real booger too, especially when you have to put most everything into storage like we did. We were only planning on living in this place while we built a house, but of course pigs haven’t flown yet, so we’re still here. ;o) Is the moving company storing your stuff for you or did you have to handle that yourself?

We got a pretty decent little thunderstorm at the house this morning about 5, but it didn’t rain a drop down at the barn where the horses are. It’s aggravating, but we’ll take every little drop we can get. All that pasture grass that jumped up a few weeks ago has shriveled up turned brown again. We had a record heat day of 108* here on Wednesday. If it holds today, and it’s supposed to, we’ll tie the record of 10 consecutive days over 100*. Tomorrow will break it. I’d just as soon not be breaking those kinds of records!

EEWWWWWWW....that’s hot. We’ve been breaking the 100’s here this week. I’m looking forward to the cooler temps this weekend.

I was getting ready to go to work this morning and had some of my Mother's laundry folded up in a bag, ready to take back to her, and this is what I found when I went to pick up the bag... A BearInABag

It rained in town this morning too but not at the house. Asphalt does not need the rain, our grass does!

Good Morning.

Alison and I are going for a ride today. She will be going back to school in a few weeks, so we better get some riding in.

Temps in low 80's. Man, I feel for you guys with the 100's! I would not be able to breath with it that hot.

Cute kitty, Frog.

And Happy Friday!

LOL...what a great picture. I can't believe he got inside the bag, and stayed there for you to take his picture:)

I got this one of Bink the other day under my ornamental grass.

That is wonderful! One less thing to worry about. Packing can be a momentous task, but it is a good time to clean out what you have not used or needed, in a long time. A month long vacation at the cabin sounds like a blast.

What is with Countrywide? Is that a mortgage company? We are part of a class action settlement with Ameriquest. A few years ago, we refinanced with them and they charged us a tremendous closing cost. The States sued and everyone is entitled to a settlement.
