This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Oh my goodness - I can just imagine the look on your mom’s face after that :)
I’ll have to look for you there then :) muppetbaby is one I won’t forget at least.
She didn’t get it at first. However I did. I immediately “gifted” Sarah and even showed her how to use it:’)
Sure glad I got the pasture mowed yesterday, as it is suppose to rain today. I did see where I missed quite a few spots with the weed killer last year, but the grass grew nice.
Been watering my grass seeds and watching for signs they are germinating. :~)
Exciting life eh?
I’m sure there’s something I could be mowing, but I have to do some real work today.
Hope everyone else has a nice day!
Agdirect,Dreamhorse,Justappaloosas and the web site of the Horseman's organization Alison shows in. Some people came last night to look at him. They want for 13 yo daughter. Amy rode him, two of the girls rode him and the "friend horse expert" they brought along, rode him. He was just perfect. Now, I am having second thoughts about selling him. He has been so much better, since I do not let him out with the mares.
LOL. Sounds like me:). I walk around the pasture every evening looking to see if I can find new patches of bermuda growing:)
The bobcat is finally going to be brought to me by tomorrow, so I'll be able to do some serious work on the horse pens and the driveway.
This morning I'm waiting on the farrier, and then I'm going to town to help Mack catch up on some bookwork, yuk!!! Not sure that I would characterize this day as going to be a "nice day":).
Becky
The bobcat sounds like big fun though, you have that to look forward to!
Good luck with the farrier.
Ain't that always the way it is. As soon as you decide to sell one they turn out to be just the kind of horse you were looking for. That's what happened to me when I decided to sell Hope. She turned out so good that I decided to keep her, at least until one of the others turns out to be better.
Front.
Back
I think his heels look underrun. Is that something that takes time to correct?
He said the only thing he changed last time was he put 3 nails in on the inside rather then just two. He went back to 2 this time, thinking maybe the shoe felt to tight to the horse. He said he did not find any evidence that a nail might have been pinching. He thinks the fronts loosened up this time because we are not so dry after being so wet for so long. The horses foot is contracting which loosened the nails. He did seemed concerned that I said the horse was clicking more then he was. He also said we are "still making changes, corrections in the foot"
Becky
Actually I thought his heels look good at least in the solar view.
The only thing that concerns me is the amount of shoe sticking out on the inside in the fronts. There’s enough there to step on.
I didn’t realize or remember that he had a scar there in his coronet band that affected the hoof growth so much. When did that happen?
I was kinda thinkiing the same thing. Jake has a tendency to do that so he cannot have much sticking out of the front feet.
On that inside edge, he does round it of with a grinder. I’m not sure if that helps, but so far it hasn’t been a problem.
That scar is where he recently cut himself and I had to have it stitched. He just nicked the coronet band so will always have a scar but it’s not deep enough to be a problem.

Are you sure that's not how he's been losing the shoes?
Actually no I’m not sure. He could be stepping on that inside edge.
The scar isn’t “all” the way down his hoof yet, but it will be.
Mack said, sell the horse and he’d buy me a 4-wheeler”:)
Becky
Eh - 4 wheelers are noisy, and then you’d just get flat tires.
...Techniques for correcting the defects of heels that are too low and/or underrun range from the fundamental rules of hoof care to the most complex of methods as follows:
1) Correct shoeing period The shoeing period must be tailored to each individual horse. In particular, horses with flat hoofs should be shod more frequently.
2) Correctly fitting ("comfortable"), wide and long shoe branches. The branches of the shoes should be made correctly fitting, wide and long.An appropriate rule in this regard could be as follows: The branches of the shoe should protrude at the back so far that they are halfway between the heels and a vertical projection of the bulbs...
See! This is my daugher's half brother's. He still has not the nerve to tell his dad he bought one. I was out behind the pasture mowing today and the ruts are awful from this thing. I did put a stop to it.
It also looks like he's hammered a nice breakover in at the toes on the front too, so I like that. The only thing that bothers me is the 2 nail deal on the inside. I just can't see where that's enough to hold the shoe on. My farrier always uses at least 3 nails all the way around. They might be placed differently on each foot, but I think there's always at least 3. So I don't know.
My farrier did that with Jake's rear feet because Jakes heels are a little under run but he shaped the shoe so it did not stick out on the sides.
