This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

That does sound like the trip from hell! It’s bad enough getting separated, but getting separated while hauling a tractor behind you is REALLY bad. That would have made me a nervous wreck. How did you ever find each other finally?
Wow, that Tall Stacks Festival sounds really cool! I’d love to be able to see inside them. All I’ve been able to do so far is to look longingly at them as they pass through our locks. I’ve been on several ocean cruises, but a river cruise would be interesting I think.

We are having a garage sale next weekend. Tons of work to do, hauling all this stuff out and pricing. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth it.
And I should add, that no matter which way you decide to go, no other horses will be able to come up to the fence to pick fights over the fence, Mine are all going to be locked up in runs.

Just putting them in the arena together would be fine with me if it’s ok with BladeRider. I’ll be bringing Hope (a mare) but she’s Blade’s half sister and has ridden with him before so I don’t think there’ll be a problem. If there is, like you say, we could rig up two separage pens fairly quickly.
Stepping into a hole could cause her a sprain of sorts in the ankle/pastern area. How will he treat her? Is there going to be a stream or creek where he could put her in the water. If they were camped, I would think they would be.
I love that graphic! Jumping into leaf piles is SO much fun! I’m ready for Fall weather too but it’s still too dang hot around here.

It was held last year. So, that means it should be held in the fall of 2008. Just put in Tall Stacks in a Google search and read all about it. If it is something you can do, you should try to come when they all steam up from Louisville in almost parade formation. It is very cool.
Going to the fair sounds like fun. I haven’t been to the fair in ages. Ours has de-volved into mostly cheap carnival rides, bad food and rigged games. They don’t have much of the farm-type stuff like they used to. Y’all have fun!
Stuart also has some kind of elfin groom that uses roots, jellies, and salves on her as well.
I just Googled it and according to Wikepedia the next one is tentatively scheduled for 2009. That’s ok though, it sounds like something worth waiting for. Seeing 17 steamboats docked in one place and playing their steam calliope’s would be a sight to see, and hear!
1. They're not native to this country. Old Indian or African remedies would be much more believable, depending on the apparent origins of your groom.
2. In dealing w/ real historical characters, it's always better to leave pleasantly in doubt whether a minor character is outworldly or not. Kipling, btw, was a master of this technique in his adult short stories dealing with the supernatural. Read "The Wish House" or "The House Surgeon" and you'll see what I mean. In his stories for children, however, he was much more forthcoming (e.g. Puck of Pook's Hill).
You can have someone be a little uncanny and get the same effect without being too obvious and thus distracting from your main story line.
I think Mary O'Hara is a little over the top in My Friend Flicka re the healing virtues of cold water, but then that's probably just me.

No worries... I didn’t mean to write that Jack was an elf. He is a little wizened old man, who resembles an elf. Jack is very human, and Stuart’s groom.

Sorry about that... I thought it was every two years. It is worth waiting for. But, if you plan to come, get your tickets early. Those dinner tickets get snapped right up.
