This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Minature cows?? Where??
Everything’s been pretty stable with Barkley. No more outbursts.
We have a safe feeding routine, we tie Barkley in the corner and feed him there, no gobbling his down then bowl surfing the others who eat slower. We turn him loose when everyone’s done. That helps.
And I’ve watched him and Gidget, she’ll sometimes still glower over him and he looks away. Sometimes I tell her to cool it because I get anxious about it.
What we should do is set up some training exercises for the both of them involving food and learn more about how controllable it is. Because of the tensions, we’re now not giving any treats or leftovers to any of them. Gone are the days when we could set a plate down and Gidget, Homer, and the kittens would all crowd in there and no one’s head got bitten off.
LOL!!! You're BAD! But a very good idea. I'll have to try that sometime, although I don't think mine smokes at all.
So what ever happen with Barkley and the beagle rescue lady. Did she ever e-mail you back?
Resist the Dark Side Luke!!!
She did. She offered some basic handling advice and told me she was full and while she’d list him as available on Petfinder, she couldn’t take custody. She’s already listing more than 20 beagles.
I said, “well if all you’re doing is listing him on Petfinder, couldn’t I do that?” (and save people your $150 adoption fee)
She said... Yeah - you can list him.
We haven’t....
But they're just sittin' there... I could almost reach 'em!
You can touch....just don’t grab
Good morning.
Kittens are so cute:)
It’s raining here, but should stop this afternoon. I’m not sure I’ll get anything done tho. My get ready for our get together schedule is/was this week getting the pasture all mowed and the bobcat work done, next week I will be working down at Jenny’s shop. She is going on vacation, and I will be there to let tanners tan. Then the next week will be getting the house ship shape, and in between times, riding my two horses so they will be ready.
For the last few days I’ve had a horrible cough:(, I was blaming it on all the mowing and stirring up of pollen....then Sun. I was achy, but blamed it on getting in and out of that boat all weekend...it was a very awkward boat. Last night tho, I came to the conclusion I may be trying to come down with something...I really felt bad. Landed up on the couch from about 6 on, cold one minute, sweating the next, hurting all over, coughing...
Today I feel 95% better tho, still a bit of a cough, and a headache, but much better....so am I sick, or have I just over done:)...who knows, but I’m taking it easy today. I just can’t get sick right now:)
Becky
:~)
OK - Take care of yourself, stay inside and warm today, don’t overdo. Kill the cold now so you can be better for the visit!
I was sitting in the chair a few feet away, but they weren’t running away when I moved my hands anymore. I thought I’d just start inching the chair closer.
I’m curious. I always use to let my cat lick tuna cans, but then someone, I can’t remember who, told me that people tuna was not good to give cats.
Since you are saying you are giving these cats tuna, I was just wondering, because Bink loved the tuna cans, and I’ve always worried about it since. Susie gets the cans now:)
Becky
Sorry to hear about the cold. I think you’ve got the right idea by taking it easy. Take some vitamins and drink plenty of water. Hopefully it’ll be short lived.
But so long as the cat is getting a varied diet, including tuna is not a problem.
Since that may be all the kitties are getting to eat, I'd vary the tuna with a can of premium cat food now and then!
We always let ours have the juice. I think it’s not good as a whole diet, and I think it’s a little rich. I might be giving them the runs. They’re still eating the dry kibble at night too, hopefully that will balance it out. I’m using it for the smell, they can’t resist it. As soon as I trek to the feed store, I’m going to get a good canned kitten food that’s probably better for them, unless it comes from China and kills them ;~\ We just didn’t have any on hand.
Yep, that’s the best way.
I didn’t mean it as a criticism, I was just trying to find out if it was true:)
Bink will be so glad:)...of course Susie won’t.
The smell of tuna is definitely a cat drawer. Anytime I open a can, within seconds, no matter where he is at in the house, he is there at my feet yowling at me...it was hard not to give it to him:( just as it’s hard not to give Susie chicken bones.
Becky
These things are so scrawny I want to give them something good. They might like the smell of the canned food just as much, it’s usually pretty pungent. If not... maybe the canned food with a little tuna added.
I wondered if they’re too old to benefit from milk replacer? The kind we bought for our kittens was in a carton and not ~real~ expensive.
