This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well I was in the lean-to shoveling and I heard thundering hooves, they were having a good ole run... so the horses exercised themselves a bit and I feel less bad for not lunging. That's all I wanted to do, was get Bay's heart rate up a bit, and see if he looked sound, and he accomplished that.

That's actually sortof a buck by Bay below ;~)

There's something about the way Cyn blinks. She either blinks too often or too long, because I catch her with her eyes closed, running, more than any other horse. Maybe she's thinking ewww because she appears to have splatted both back feet into fresh manure piles, I don't know. ;~)

Here's where I'm at with the project! But I've got the barrow emptied and in position for one... more... load...

I'd say I'm over half done. Especially because I'm nearly at the end of the mare swamp and the rest is pretty dry. and because I want to leave it high by Bay's doorway on the end. It's quite a step up if I bring it all down, as you can see at the other doorway, and I think I'd like to have one doorway I can easily roll the cart into. So I'm going to make it a gradual slope up to there.

Well, it’s not really poo... they don’t poo in there that much. It’s pee compressed bedding.

I’m done for the night now. I got the last of the mare swamp. Now I’m cleaning and HPing everyone’s feet. Have Cyn waiting at the tie. There was no sign of disease in her feet, but I want to make a point, now that I’ve got the last of the nasty footing gone, to clean and HP their feet a couple times a week this winter just to make sure they’re good. I don’t know if that swamp was the cause of Bay’s issue, but it didn’t help.

What does HP do for their feet if there is no specific problem?

It gets them really clean for one, so I can see if there’s any bungus. It helps bubble dirt out of the crevices, particularly under the shoes. I try with the spray bottle to really shoot it under the shoe. And if there is bungus it would kill it... and it has a drying and hardening effect.

That’s what I understand anyhow.

Wow, we have been having such beautiful weather. Sunny and low 80's. Gets pretty cool at night though.

Hair, your project is coming along fine. I have been burning branches from the fallen tree for the last couple of days. The people who cut it down, piled too close to the barn, so I have had to drag them further away. Looks like a huge pick-up sticks pile.

That’s nice that Julia’s daughter came. My motto is The More The Merrier! Does she ride much, and who did she ride? The crepe myrtle sounds really pretty. I love it when they get really big like that. The original varieties do get 20-30 feet high and 6 or 8 inches thick at the trunk. People mostly use the newer dwarf varieties around their houses these days because they donn’t want them taking over the house. I love the way their bark is so smooth. It looks almost like skin. I’m really looking forward to seeing the picture of it.

We’ve been having pretty much the same weather down here too. It’s probably not as cool at night, but it’s been getting down into the low 50’s by morning and that’s cool enough to run the heat a bit in the car on the way to work. I LOVE it!

I believe Julia said this was the first time she had been on a horse in several years. Julia is hoping she had fun so she will do it often. She rode Julia’s bay horse.

We really enjoy it when BladeRider’s daughter Amy comes along with us too. She hasn’t ridden a whole lot, but she does really well and seems to enjoy it. Amy’s boyfriend also rides (which is a real plus in my book) and we had thought that he was coming too but he ended up having to work. He would have ridden one of my horses, either Hope or Grace.

I’m hoping to be able to put shoes back on Bob the next time the farrier comes coz I’ve sure missed riding him. But I’m sure we’ll probably have to have a bit of a dust-up at first just because he hasn’t been ridden in so long and he’s just so darned full of it. The grazing muzzle has really helped him get his weight back down too. He looks MUCH better when he’s not so fat and hopefully that’ll help keep his feet more healthy.

My that’s a lot of clutter in my grooming area... I think I’ll tidy that up too ;~)

Hey, I thought it looked like a very nice grooming area. You got all your stuff hanging right there where you need it on the fence by your mat and you’ve got your broom right there where you can sweep all the crap off of the mat when you get done. Looks good to me! You definitely ought to be growing some muscles hauling all this crap out of the barn!

Did you see the white electric tape we had to put up? The pony figured out she could paw that fence and knock the stuff down, and Cyn would reach over and grab things.

They never bothered those flowers, but the bottles and grooming stuff they wouldn’t leave alone. :~\

He’s been up a long time now, and I’m still dawdling, so maybe it was just a convenient excuse :~)

Those flowers weren't "fun", but the grooming supplies are a whole 'nother matter. Lotsa stuff to bite and paw and spill. Bob likes to bite spray bottles and squeeze the stuff out of them.

I hate it when people basically tell you that you’re too stupid to talk to them and that you needed to slink off and read all their self-aggrandizing dissertations before you would be considered worthy of their time. Sheesh! Makes ya just wanna slap ‘em!
