FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

A couple of weeks ago, our barn took a trip to a private fancy pants warmblood farm, where this woman and her daughter have BEAUTIFUL horses... She wants to start a quadrille group, and we'll get to ride her horses...

Wow, that sounds like fun! I've always loved to watch mounted drill teams work. Pictures will absolutely be required!

Your weather sounds really bad. Not as bad as Hair's, but really bad. Ours has just been wet. We're supposed to get another 5 inches tonight. After 3 years of drought I guess it's trying to catch up all in one month! ;o)

Wow, sounds like a really messed-up situation! To me it sounds like the woman just really wanted to shoot that horse to spite her nephew and the cop felt he and his family were threatened and defended himself. I would have hated to have been put in the same situation. I don’t even know how to shoot, but I imagine if I’d been in his shoes and had a gun in my possession I would have at least tried to do the same thing, but I would have probably been the one who ended up dead. She just picked the wrong person to pull a gun on.

A big mess. I don’t blame the cop but I can kind of understand her anger too. How many horse people have threatened to kill a horse before? How many actually do? It doesn’t say but it wouldn’t surprise me if her gun was even loaded.

My blinds came in, so I'll post pictures. After thinking about it, I decided not to put the dividing wall in, just the ones for bed/bath room, so because of that I had to order blinds for the other set of windows also. Here are the ones on the original side:

Here's the office side. During the day they will be slid open to uncover the door, but at night I can pull them across the door.

Here is a picture with the slats open so you can see the park across the street.

We all love sitting in here watching people too:) During the day you can’t see in from the sidewalk, so people passing don’t know if there are people in here or not. It’s really funny to watch people go by watching their own reflections, and adjusting their hair or clothes:) Lot’s of people watch themselves, but are trying to hide the fact they are watching themselves:)

One of my favorite things to do at airports and malls and places like that. People are really interesting.

Those are REALLY nice! I love the view too. I think you’re going to really love living down there.

I didn’t know y’all were having fires! Since I can’t login from work anymore I’m just totally losing track of everybody and I just hate it. None of them are close to your house I hope.

There’s nothing special going on in my life. Just cold weather and frozen hoses. We haven’t been riding much at all since the first of the year. It’s always too cold and/or wet on the weekends. I’m still working with my designer on the final tweaks to my house plan, so hopefully we’ll get started when it dries up and warms up a little later on this spring.

Well, I gotta head to work. This just sucks. I check back in later...

Hey Frog, I’ve been wondering where you were:)

Thanks:), I love being down here at night. Tonight will be my 4th night. I’ve slept so much better, it’s so nice not having to go clear out to the house at night. Tomorrow the TV guy will be here to connect my satellite so I’ll really be set:)But you know, I haven’t missed watching it that much.

The fire came right to the back of my property, but the firemen kept it there, altho there wasn’t that much that would have burned. I had it mowed down pretty good.

Our weather has been crazy here too....freezing one day, and hot the next, today we are close to 70, Mon it was cold. But we have been staying pretty dry. Next Mon they are predicting ice pellets.

Sounds exciting about your new house!

2 walls :)

This will be the bedroom, the walls do not go clear to the ceiling since there are no windows. I wanted some light coming in. There are no studs at the end of this second wall because I am putting in pocket doors to save space.

Hey cool! So can you picture how it’s gonna be yet? Before it’s too late to change it LOL :) Good idea on leaving the walls a little short, good privacy, better air and light.

Yeah, I’ve made some changes from the original plan...one my desk is going to stay where it’s at, which will be at the end of the kitchen.

I wondered if the short walls would be weird or something...but I think they will be OK. The bathroom and rest of the stuff behind walls will have full walls to the ceiling so it’s going to be a bit closed in and stuffy, maybe the short walls will help that.

I don’t really care, I love being down here even the way it is. I’ve got a long table with a toaster oven, microwave, fry pan, and camp stove, and am making it fine. Of course I can’t take a bath, but right now I go home every day to feed Rock, and clean up then. But even if I didn’t do that, there are ways to wash without a bath:), hope that doesn’t sound to gross:), but I’m a lot happier down here than at the house.

Well, of course it sounds like Rocky is really in your way... any hope of a plan for him? Can a pen for him be built down at your kids so you’re not needing to make that trip, or ???

Oh, I don’t mind running out to the house every day to feed him. It’s just nice not having to stay there at night.

If I would sell the house before Rocky, he would have to go to the kids, but since they would have set all the panels up at their house by then he could stay in that pen. It’s just easier not having to worry about moving him if we don’t have too...after all Dot, his daughter is there.

I heard at church today that an ice storm, possibly worse then last years is on it’s way here for Mon. and Tues.....I’m hoping it’s just the weathermen over reacting again.

Oh geeze... I hope too that it’s just over-reaction.

And of course, I still wish I had room and a reason to take Rocky :) He’s cool, and I hope you find someone soon who also thinks so.

Wow, that’s exciting! I’ll bet you can’t wait!

I sure hope they’re wrong about the ice storm too. I just heard about it on the news this evening. But at least if you do get some ice there won’t be as much dead wood to bring down. Hopefully if it managed to stay up through the last one it’ll be strong enough to make it through again.
