This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Hunt test photos from a professional! They're copyrighted, so you'll have to click through, about 7-8 photos of each.
Ruby passed both days, Shelley being what my husband calls "a lightly seasoned dog" passed Saturday but not Sunday. I didn't expect her to pass at all because her blinds are so bad, so it's a gimme! And yeah, I am absolutely nuts about my Good Dogs.
Although the red saddle-pad, bridle combo is pretty eye-catching too. All you need is red leg wraps to complete the ensemble . . . and maybe a matching red T-shirt?
I would be ashamed to appear with my plain old black mare (or even the new plain old bay mare with 3 white socks, although we're not going to be on a trail for a long, long time, given her Attitude.)

This guy is a tremendous photographer. Look at his "Portfolio" on the main page for samples - especially the "Goofy, Crazy, and Cute" category.
The pictures are spectacular. I hope you’re buying number three of Ruby and number four of Shelley. Both have to be the best of an already outstanding photo shoot.
I like Ruby's No. 3 the best too -- although the last one, No. 6, is beautiful, and beautifully sharp.
Shelley's No. 4 wasn't one I had picked as outstanding - I like the first one and the last one best, as well as one of the two where she's sitting with a bird in her mouth (classic retriever pose - there's a famous painting of FC Nilo's King Buck that was made into the first Duck Stamp - exact same pose.) Only difference between the two bird-in-mouth pics is that in one she's looking up and in the other towards the front (because she sat when the diversion bird was shot and was waiting for it to land). But giving No. 4 another look, it IS good.
Shoot, they're all good, I'm probably going to wind up ordering small (5x7) prints of ALL of them. The only question is which ones get the Art Print treatment and the 8x10 or 11x14 size. I don't think I want to spring for Canvas (very pricey), although a friend of mine had the photog take a mother-daughter portrait of two of her Labs during some down time at headquarters, and she IS springing for the full treatment. Of course the mama Lab is 14 although in good health, so I can see why she'd want the Perfect Portrait. They had another Lab who died without getting her formal portrait taken, and I think they feel bad about that because Dixie was a super dog.
The camper does look in great shape. Nice find for you all. Does it not have a holding tank? They are not that expensive, if you would want to put a new one on. The one for my trailer was around $200.
The prices on the horses seem high to me, but I dont know what the going rate is for competitive horses in your area.
The mule is really cute! I love loud colored horses, but dont think I would ever ride a mule. The lady sure is decked out too, with her chinks and turquoise! :)
How are you doing with the new horse?
Last minute instructions from mom.
This was her horsemanship class...two judges and she won a third and fourth. 10 in her pleasure class and she won 2 ninths. PJ broke into a trot from a walk and both judges saw that. :(
Looks like she is imitating Angelina Jolie.
She’s so cute. The other gals in the lineup look like older kids. She’s going to be a force to contend with the older she gets.
On the trailer, we’re happy not having a holding tank, particularly for the toilet. We weren’t planning on using it anyway. For our purposes we’d have no way to empty it. We’re not even going to fill the water tank because we don’t want to worry about it freezing. We’ll use bottled water and if we fill the sink to wash hands or dishes or something that water can just pour on the ground.
I thought you were planning on camping at a campground with the trailer. If not, then I can see your point of not needing a holding tank.
Naw - hopefully it’s going to just stay where it is.
When we buy property we may want to move it out there, if it holds together that long, to use as a base while we start working on building. But we’ll figure out then what to do with it.
We pretty much have a long-running argument for about 15-20 minutes on the flat, where she tries every trick in the book to avoid the aids and I just quietly press her where she needs to go. Eventually she realizes that arguing with me is really pointless and gives in.
Then when I start working her over fences the whole argument starts again, because she wants to rush her fences and then buck on landing. My back and shoulders and triceps are sore just from holding her in position and pulling her head up when she starts bucking.
My trainer is thinking about putting her in an elevator bit. I don't know, I guess I'll try it, my shoulders are really sore!
She's a pretty, pretty young Oldenburg mare and she's got plenty of power and reach. She'll be a good horse . . . someday!
The way they stand reminds me of that old statue by James Earle Fraser, "The End of the Trail".
Thanks. Bob said the prices were too high also. I already emailed everyone with those prices and talked to the man at Endurance News. He is putting an ad online for us. I did put *or best offer* because Lori’s mom will be happy to get any funds at all. I guess I decided on the prices because I know the one horse, the buckskin. That mare carried Lori so carefully when she really shouldn’t have been riding, let alone competing. She also won one ride, beating the best horse I know (Tracey’s) by 13 seconds. I expect though, that we’ll sell for whatever we can get, they have about two months until the hay runs out.
I agree with Hair - doing this great competing against the big kids, she’s going to be heck on wheels when she gets older. Congratulations to her :)
Duchess:) I’m sorry you lost your friend.
Hair...The camper looks great. LOL...only one comment tho...why build a bed you probably won’t sleep in, since you’ll be up worrying about the storm:)....just teasing.
I went to the fair yesterday, with a friend and Jenny. I enjoyed it alot..especially the corn dog, and fudge:) I bought a new purse, and some cool helicopters for the boys that will be for Christmas.
We stopped to watch some of the horse events, but I found myself watching the people more then the horses. The fair grounds have built a lot of new buildings since last year, and there was lot more things to see. We checked on a pig twice that was in labor, but she hadn’t gotten far enough along for us to see a birth.
At least the dogs will be comfortable. :~)
The camper's nice for what we'll use. The rest, we don't really care. The fridge has a real bad smell. Real bad. It looks perfectly clean so I don't know where it's coming from. We turned it off and closed it and promised each other to never open it again. :~\
