This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
Yeh, not orange would be good :)
I think it was a lame attempt to knock some of the steam out of the buzz over Sarah Palin's candidacy and the "Read my Lipstick" buttons, bumper stickers and such. Pure desperation.
Well, I don't wanna be a wet blanket or anything, but I'd re-think the leather furniture in a pet-filled household if I were you. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE leather, and I always wanted it too, but I bought a really nice (and really expensive) leather Club Chair type recliner when we moved and the arms on it are REALLY scratched up on it already. It's not from any intentional clawing or anything, but just from the cats jumping up there and sitting. I'm just saying that if I had it to do over again I'd get a fabric one instead. Just food for thought.
Wow, I took it she did well then. Besides halter, had she been showed in pleasure or anything?
Yeah, leather does wipe down pretty well, and if you don’t mind covering it that’s probably the way to go for you. I just won’t buy it again in NEW furniture. Why pay leather prices when you can’t see it?
I might look into of the micro-fiber stuff that looks like suede though. There’s some of that stuff that even ball point pen ink won’t permanently stain.
No, she has never been shown pleasure, just halter. What really impressed me was that she was ridden back yard for 10 years, we bought her and never rode her, although Bob did put a saddle on her and ride her in the ring just to see what she knew about three years ago. Not many horses you can pull out of a pasture after being a broodmare and a halter horse for 5-6 years, saddle up and ride away - no lunging, no nothing. She reminds me in that aspect very much of my old mare, Lady.
I’m seeing a lot of this micro fiber stuff in new furniture, I’m not sure what it IS, or whether it will end up grabbing hair just like any other fabric.
My goal is to spend a couple hundred bucks for something used, see how it goes.
I’m sure hair will stick to it to some degree, because it has a nap like suede, but I think it will probably wipe off with a damp cloth better than the velour type fabrics will.
A lady I used to work with bought a sofa in brown microfiber because she had 3 or 4 Austrailian Shepherds in the house and wanted something that was easy to clean and I think she really liked hers. She was the one that told me about the ball point pen ink. Said the sales lady took a pen and marked on the one in the showroom and then rubbed it off with a damp cloth. That was a selling point to me right there!
I think you need to keep Friday for you! Any horse you can not ride for 3 years and then throw a saddle on and go with no fuss is a keeper in my book!
Beautiful saddle rack:) Good job ecurbh.
Raining here a lot...to continue the rest of the week and weekend.
Bowling tonight:)
Our thoughts exactly. Bob sees her as a replacement for Prez down the road since Prez is having a lot of trouble with his choke or whatever and ends up coughing a lot now. And wouldn’t you know - get to work and check my email and a lady is interested in Friday, wants her for her husband. I’m ignoring it for right now to check the boards before 9 and start of my day but I guess I’ll have to email her back.
Just tell her that you’re sorry but you’ve decided to keep her.
So if you do keep her, that’ll leave you with how many when all the others are sold?
Too many :) I emailed her back and told her that she was pulled out and rided after three year lay off - I’ll see what she says.
We must keep Prez, Indy my son’s gelding, and Farah to insure that no one breeds her again. Now we’re toying with gelding Sonny and adding Sonny and Friday to the must keep. That would be five. It will work out somehow though I’m sure.
Oh well, five’s not TOO many, compared to the number you’ve had in the past.
LOL it’s a lot better than 22 isn’t it? We’ll see I guess.
Amy and I hauled some more downed trees. Of course, my chain saw is giving us grief, so I will need to get a new chain. We took a ride in the woods on the ATV. It was fun, but I made her go slow...:) Those things scare me. At least they dont spook!
Great news on the CAT scan. I sure don’t envy you the trip to the physical therapist though, I believe they are closet sadists.
Wow, that’s great news! Hopefully the physical therapist can get you straightened out and get rid of that pain, then maybe you’ll be able to ride again. I’m assuming that would be ok, since nothing’s broken.
