This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)
I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.
So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

New folk and occasional posters, jump right in and introduce yourselves, tell us about your horses, and post pictures if you've got them!
I would think so - Lord, we don’t even use a stud chain on Sonny. We only have chains at shows because show halters and leads come with chains - they are run under the chin and up the other side of the halter.
He’s very pretty!
You guys all battered down for this storm?
Out and about in public :) same as at home, mares, geldings, other stallions. His rope halter and lead for breaks and bridle for riding.
I can't get into Photobucket this morning but when I can, I'll see if I got pictures from the show of the chains there.
It will be interesting to see if the stallions from that last show you were at, had the chains fixed like that.
I wish I could have gotten a picture of the filly. It was very scary her rearing and striking out at the trainer, while he tried to get a lead on her. After Judy lost that last filly from rearing and hitting the hay rack, breaking her shoulder, I am sure they did not want to take a chance with this one. She is not loud colored, but is really beautiful and flawless conformation.
Heading to a horse show again today to see Alison show. Going to be a hot day again.
No, they didn’t. I believe one or two stallions did but I don’t have pictures. Most of the chains were on younger ones. None of the horses except the two Bob and Janelle brought (Tuffy and her mare Dream) were particularly well behaved.
I guess things are really changing in the horse world at least at the breed level. I can’t imagine showing open like that and at an open show, a good many of the horses at the breed show would have been shown the gate. The judges won’t tolerate the rearing and doubt seriously that they would have tolerated the chain under the lip thing.
I just looked at the weather and maps and they say it is heading for Houma. I have an aunt and 2 cousins and their families not 10 miles north of there. Houma is where the hotel is where we stayed the first of the year for my uncle’s funeral. I also have an uncle and 2 cousins and their families in the Baton Rouge area. The aunt close to the target area left a couple of days ago and emailed me where she would be till it was over. It’s at one of her sons (my cousin) in Gonzoles, which is just south of Baton Rouge. Doesn’t look for enough away to me. I didn’t really understand why she left so soon till I looked at the map and weather prediction.
Hopefully we will only get rain and not tornados. Too soon to tell. We don’t have any big trees that can fall on our house.
Well, keep us posted as it comes! We’ll be looking for news.
Everything is great here in Aiken and I couldn't be happier with my move . It will be a yr. in October that we've been here.
Waylon and the new boy, Obie, are doing great...Waylon's getting fat and is so attached to Obie that it's a riot if I only ride Waylon. Obie goes crazy running all over the paddock and kicking and neighing. Thank God I have a neighbor that rides Obie most of the time. How are things in Ohio? I was up there in July visiting my daughter and it was lovely weather. It's been really hot here. Hot and Humid. Look forward to reading all these posts I've missed.
Glad things are settling in well there! Have you got any new pics you can post?
So glad to hear you really love it there.
Are you working or did you retire?
Alison won Reserve hi-point and received the coolest plant hanger. It has a horse on it and says "Welcome". You can hang 2 planters on it...really neat.
This is the first Labor Day weekend in a long time, that we have not been camping and trail riding...I sure do miss it. Weds, I go to the specialist and see if I can ever ride again.
Congratulations to Allison again.
I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you on Wednesday, praying all will be okay.
I need to get some more fencing for the pastures up at the cabin now that I have two horses and a dog, so I didn't go up this summer. Phil is up there now and hopefully by next summer I'll have it ready for both horses.
I love it here !!!!
Congradulations ALISON!
I didn’t know you had another one for sale. Good luck.
I sure hope your bones are gonna be ok and you don’t have to stop riding.
We need to sell some. Especially Quarter Horses we don’t ride. Need to get down to 5 or 6.
Doesn’t look like it’s going to effect us at all, thank goodness! It’s a gorgeous day here today, just a little windy, and hubby and I are headed down to the park for the annual Labor Day picnic. We’ll probably do a little shopping afterwards and that’s about the extent of my plans, other than just enjoying the day off.
I think HaveFaith and BladeRider are meeting up at one of the horse camps and riding today. It’s probably the first Labor Day weekend in recent memory that I haven’t been riding either. It seems kinda strange and I really miss it too. I go back to the Doc tomorrow and hopefully get the green light to go back to riding. I’ll probably have to mount from the off-side for a while until the ankle gets a little more flexible, but it’s a small price to pay. I’m ready!
MT I sure hope you get good news in your doctor visit. I’ll be praying for you!
Oh - well good! I thought it looked like you might get dumped on at least, but maybe not till tomorrow?
Hey there stranger! I was wondering what had happened to you just the other day. I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the retired life in your new home. It must be nice to have horse-loving neighbors too, and it works out well for both of you that you have two horses. I sure enjoy all my riding buddies, both local and online. Life just wouldn’t be the same without them!
They’re saying we might get scattered showers at best. The current forecast track is taking it more to the NW and actually looks like it may end up giving Becky more rain than us. We could actually use a little more rain.
