Okay, I am going to spend some of my mad money for a large screen HDTV. I want either a LCD or Plasma TV, no projection tv's. I want 1080p resolution. I'll have around $2000 to spend. What I need is advice on what is good, what sucks, what breaks, what keeps on working, plasma tv life expectancy, etc.
Hit me!
Actually ... we also do the projector chips. With our chip you can place the projector in a corner pointed at an angle at the screen and the chip will adjust the picture angles so that it appears that the projector is pointing straight at the screen
LEDs have many great characteristics
“Samsung or Vizio from Costco.”
I agree. I bought a Panasonic from Costco, but am buying a Vizio soon for someone.
TV’s will change dramatically in the next few years. DLP and OLED displays? Don’t buy the top of the line. The line will move soon. Get a moderate plasma or lcd, then plan on getting a new one again in 3 years.
I dont know what TV is best for you, But I have learned 2 things tonight, FR is full of technoheads and and folks that love video
I sold my plasma for bigger plasma.

lol.. 4 quarts to a gallon.. $750 a gallon (if ya have a sought after blood type) .. take me quite awhile to get the one I like either way... ;-)
We have FIOS cable which means hundreds of channels of rubbish. I can not wait for football to start, and then hockey..AAAH!
I went through 7 plasmas in less than year.
Two Hitachis, two Vizios, one LG, one Panasonic and one Samsung.
I will never buy another plasma again.
I went with LCDs, instead.
I now have a 37” Sharp Aquos [gorgeous] which I use as a PC monitor and a 42” LG which is pretty nice too but not as great as the Sharp.
Plasmas get “burn in” really fast if you’re not careful.
Mine all got “History Channel” perma-logos in less than a month and the Hitachi’s connections just simply “burnt out”.
Neither the Vizios or Samsung were anything to scream about, either.
The Panasonic was miserable to watch.
[Google “putty face + plasma”...it’s horrible to watch any movie with a lot of dark colors in it]
I will always buy the LCDs.
Just my tuppence tossed in.

It's one thing to get a Tammy Faye Baker thread pulled, but, in order to get a thread on FR dedicated to T.V. pulled, it will require more influence than that of some filthy, hairball hacking cat.
We have a brand new CEO ... he’s the same guy who founded Rambus ... the memory company. Look for MUCH higher capacity in the very near future
Other furniture. Fireplace or large windows in between the visionary fields

It’s fun just reading the thread, and very informative. all the acronyms get to me, new stuff always popping up..
MegaWEGA was a new one on me. ;-)
Oh...I know its coming!
WEGAWaga?
Samsung makes gorgeous LCDs. Very pure black and not the almost overly bright appearance I’ve seen on a lot of other brands.
I use a Sharp 27in Aquos for a PC monitor and Cable TV at the same time.I use 12in X 12in of it as a monitor and 8in X 10in section for cable TV. The remaining section of the screen I use for holding a window or two open.Sometimes I find a TV station that you can stream with your computer and use that space for it.Next week I am ordering a Sharp 37in Aquos LCD TV 1080P ($1,600.00) and will use it as a super Monitor!!!!!.....I have been shopping for one for a while now and will be buying it from——WWW.onecall.com——Free shipping (FED-X) and no sales tax if you don’t live in Washington state.Delivered in 3 days.A good vidio-card is recommended.!!!!!!.....
I am very happy with my purchase.
Don’t buy an RCA anything. Last September I bought an RCA HDTV. By January the HD part wasn’t working and my March all I got was sound and a blue screen. Parts were under warrenty but not labor. After having it at an approved RCA repair center for 2 months I finally got it back (after throwing a royal fit with the repair place and RCA) and am out 150 for labor.
