I have just begun reading a new book, written by Dr. Michael Farris, that promises within 500 pages — and upon the further authority of 50 pages of end notes, and a 50 page bibliography — to establish with finality that for the existence of our Bill of Rights we are indebted to the personal fortitude and sacrifice of William Tyndale, dethroning, in the process, the widespread claim that, all the great rights and liberties we enjoy as Americans are the bounteous produce of The Enlightenment.
Some animals get embarrassed very easily. Others turn embarrassment into a game. And then there is everything in between.
I know about the clean up. I used to do the same thing when I was annoyed with one of mine!
I saw that advertised in the HSLDA magazine. Let us know what you think at the end.
What? This is one of the days my brain isn’t cooperating...small words, simple sentences. I think.
Americans became Americans because they sought freedom of religion, and if that means “Enlightenment,” I have to agree. We’ve come a long way in 300+ years....
Americans DID, in fact, become Americans because they sought religious liberty, but, the book alleges, the source of that religious liberty has been misidentified.
The book makes the case — and I’ll need to finish reading it before I can testify how well — that it is an absurdity to assert that true religious liberty derives from Enlightenment philosophy. The Enlightenment, at best, spawned religious tolerance, which is not the same thing.
No, the first stones in the foundations upon which our religious liberty — and, by extension, our Bill of Rights — have been established, were laid by men who, too often, found themselves bound to a stake amid the flames of martyrdom. Still, their testimony was that they were laying their stones aside that ONE GREAT CORNERSTONE, which had been laid by no less than God Himself.
As I note, further reading will discover the strength of these claims, but my knowledge of their author gives me great cause to prejudge that they are sound.
And with that, I must away; the customer has a crisis for me to manage.
LOL, what did Bill do to annoy you?
I’ll be waiting to hear your take on it when you are done reading it.
Yah...I’d say!
I still have that headache, but at least the lights are gone. :o|
It's funny -- I used to have migraines but they went away a long time ago.
Hm. About the time I got married... but... not going there. *\;-) Besides, I'm still happy with my choice.
(And I think they might have gone away a few years before then.)
I can’t even remember now. Probably hit someone or threw something. It’s been too hot to run for over a week, and he’s Impossible.
How are things otherwise?
I’m OK. I’m trying to do as little as possible so I don’t mess up my reunion trip the 31st.
How old is he now?
13.
For my part, my fall travel season is beginning to look like... busy.
San Francisco down&back same day week of 9/10 is still "developing", Atlanta entire week of 9/17 is now booked (direct flight both ways -- yahoo!), Phoenix 3 days week of 9/24 just got funded with request & booking to occur (it will happen), Dortmund (Germany) 2 days early October to be requested (it will happen), a couple other nearly-annual events it seems I won't be attending (a first for one, a second for the other), then Cairo early November (approved, not booked) and maybe Vienna in December (need to be there but as yet not funded, requested or booked).
And I'm the guy who is more than happy just to stay home, where "travel" means I pitch the tent within a day's drive from home. (Well, okay, maybe two if there's a place for our kayaks.)
Finals are this week and this seems a good place to work on the "little big paper"
Crisis managed.
Feeling better?
LOL!
SJB lives around Phoenix....
I’m always ready for adventure! Sometimes, I’m more ready than others.
Just remind yourself, "This too shall pass." (And it will.)
