MOSCOW - It's a mission to Mars — without leaving Moscow. Russian scientists have finished fashioning a crucial section of a mock spacecraft that will simulate a voyage to the Red Planet, an official at the Moscow institute leading the project said Wednesday.

For at least 520 days, the barrel-shaped metal structure will serve as living quarters for six crew members picked from thousands of applicants around the world for a pretend voyage that in real life may be decades away.

I used to do this all the time as a kid. The moon, Mars, the moons of Saturn, etc. I would like on the grass or if the full moon light was coming through my bedroom window, I would bask in it, imagining I was walking on the moon.

Saturn was the best, I don’t know which moon I was on, but looking up you could see the rings.

It’s good to see scientists catching up. I think they’ll find a lot of nice things in imagining going to Mars, like you don’t need space suits and it goes a lot faster.

Going to Mars, I wonder why NASA doesn’t make it a one-way trip? The crew could be selected from astronauts with looming- or dooming- cancer issues. In my eyes, they’d all be heroes, and should be granted a “stasis pod” on Mars.
