Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
Moody (Crouch, Jr in disguise) used all 3 in “Goblet of Fire.” But you can bet the real Moody knows how to use them as well. I suspect all of the Aurors do.
I think the killing curse light is usually green. I say that because isn't it green in Harry's memories of his mom? That said, most people receiving the Avada Kedavra aren't flying off backward, they just fall over dead. People are knocked back forcefully by expelliarmus though.
In the book, we're not sure Sirius was hit by a killing curse or just fell through the veil after being hit by a stunner. In the movie, Bellatrix said the incantation and the light was green.
I came away from the movie with the same thought about Harry and Voldemort going head to head... I don’t think they battle it out either, its just that both can’t exist, one has got to go. It would be sweet if Neville took him out.
I’m trying to see what clues are most important in the movies since so much was in the books. I’m thinking of knocking off HBP again in prep for DH next weekend. Actually I won’t get it till Mon or Tues because I decided not to pay for the extra shipping from Amazon...I find its better to dive into a book when the husband is at work instead of the weekends when he’s home...dragging me away from a good read makes us both cranky..
;D
Yes N&V I really liked the movie. Hope its out on DVD for Christmas.
And, have we got a complete count for the Horcruxes?
6 plus LV right? For the magic number 7? I can only guess the following five.... what did I miss? Thanks for help.
Marvolo’s ring (destroyed)
Tom Riddle’s Diary (destroyed)
Nagini ? (the snake)
Hufflepuff cup (stolen from Hepzibah)
Slytherin Gold Locket (also stolen from Hepzibah)
Potions that have been discussed in previous books tend to end up being used somewhere. Polyjuice potion (several times), wolfsbane (POA), the bezoar (HBP). One potion has come up twice, but not used anywhere yet. The Draught of Living Death was mentioned in the first potions lesson, and Harry made one in his first potions class for Slughorn. People are speculating that it will turn up in the last book, perhaps tied to Dumbledore's death.
I know Dumbledore's death wasn't straightforward. I think it was planned and coordinated between Snape and Dumbledore. But I still think he is dead. I think I'll be mad if it were a trick.
He killed the dark wizard Grindewald in 1945. What if he turned Gryffindor's sword into a horcrux. The cover art of "Deathly Hallows" from the UK edition shows an elf riding on Harry's back, holding that sword. I originally thought it must be Dobby but now think the elf is Kreacher due to JKR's strong hint that he must be in the 5th movie because he is important later.
Here is the full prophecy:
The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches...Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies...And the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not...and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives.
Thank you very much... I needed that for my planned HP get-together next week...
Besides counting horcruxes, I was looking for the complete prophecy for discussion and debate.
You believe Dumbledore left a horcrux? But you have to perform seriously evil magic to split your soul. I can't see it.
We don't know what the Draught does. I had assumed that it would make one who is still alive, appear dead. However, I guess it could make one who is dead appear to be alive, perhaps some sort of ghost presence?
Thinking about how Dumbledore was able to find the horcruxes and what he had to know to get to them, I just can't think that Harry, even with his friends, will be able to do it. This isn't exactly like getting to the Sorcerer's Stone, you know?
Did you notice that when the DA class went into the Hogs Head bar (where Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth is the bartender), he kind of shooed away a goat? Aberforth was in the paper, according to Dumbledore, for ‘practicing inappropriate charms in a goat.” It was a good extra little touch.
Finding the Horcruxes may be difficult for Harry, Ron and Hermione but remember RAB was Regulus Arcturus Black, Sirius' younger brother. He was no doubt aided by none other than Kreacher, the Black house elf. As much as Kreacher hates it, Harry is his owner now and he must obey Harry's every command.
Don't go looking for this info in the books. It's all speculation from various writers, not me.
Don’t forget that in HBP one of the twins said that Dumbledore didn’t care about not being in the Wizangamot as long as they didn’t take his pictures of the Chocolate Frogs cards. I wonder if that will be a way for him to help Harry also.
Just connected with your tagline....rotflmao.... that WAS a really cute scene...
My head is spinning from all this......
Creating a horcrux requires a murder, and although I have no doubt Dumbledor would hesitate to kill, I rather doubt he would murder.
It is known that he killed the dark wizard Grindewald in 1945. I suppose we could debate forever whether that was a murder, self-defense, or justifiable homicide.
Yes, but who is the other? The ambiguity of the English language allows many options.
It is most likely that the only two people discussed, The Dark Lord and, presumably, Harry are one and the other.
BUT it is also possible that the other is the only other person who could have fulfilled the Prophecy. (And as a sidebar Neville was also marked, as Madame Pomphrey noted, thoughts can leave deep scars)
Harry's friends include a few fully trained Aurors.
BTW, wasn't Harry born in Godrick's Hollow? And the founder of the Gryffindor house was...
Interesting. That would be his style...
