Judging by the support pages on Apple.com the main problem is so many people are turning theirs on the system can’t get them service quick enough. I tried to port my dad’s number from Sprint to his iPhone, and it didn’t work. When I called AT&T they said they were too far backed up with porting for it to even take any more on. Not a bad problem to have, but pretty maddening for anyone who only has one phone if the old one quit working.

Too bad it’s with AT&T Wireless.
I sincerely hope APPL has put AT&T under a severe regime of Customer Service benchmark requirements.

Very cool, but does it come with a magnifying glass for that 3-point type?

I played with one at an ATT store yesterday. Of course, they were sold out, but they two on display. It is very impressive when you see it in person. The interface is very slick, but also very user-friendly.
Apple hit another one out of the park. This device will redefine mobile phones.
I predict we will see Jack Bauer using an iPhone on 24 next season.

Treo. DOA, fixed, Tried, broken, fixed, tested, upgraded, broken, fixed, and proven (knock on wood).

Apple hit another one out of the park. This device will redefine mobile phones.I don't doubt that Jobs and APPL have done it again with a cool innovative product.
But do you think AT&T will help or hinder the iPhone's success? They have a very bad rep for customer service and billing.
As a 25+ year observer of Jobs I have zero doubt that he went with AT&T strictly and solely for the branding, otherwise he'd have chosen T-Mobile for superior customer service. Verizon is CDMA and not viable, and don't even think about Sprint.

"Treo. Tried. Tested and Proven."
I'm on my second Treo. I love it. But at the insistence of one of my kids we went to the Apple store yesterday. Big mistake. It is everything the hype says it is. The only issue I had was the virtual keyboard is pretty hard to use, even compared with the mini keys on a Treo.
Still, I must confess. I was blown away. Now I have to figure out a way to get back into Cingular's good graces. After two years of legendarily lousy service and even worse support, I walked away and told them politely (really...but in no uncertain terms) that I would not pay their cancellation fee. It will probably take me until the second generation iPhone is released to convince ATT to let me back in.

Might as well be in a different solar system. It is great to see these young people with a piece of hip electronics in their hand as in former days they indicated adulthood by strapping on a sword.

What struck me wasn't just what a leap it is for the phone, but how it is almost guaranteed to ignite a revolution in computers and other devices with screens (ATMs, digital music players, and on and on). Important point here. There are still a lot of untapped opportunities for Mac OS X and cleverly designed hardware.

Apple went with AT&T both because AT&T has the largest customer base (60 million) and because Verizon said no, due to Apple’s demand for control over the product and the service.
If anything, the iPhone will give AT&T a kick in the butt to roll out 3G faster, enabling the iPhone 2 to support the technology.

I don’t think AT&T would have a serious problem with taking your money again. Also, the customer service has reportedly improved after the merger.

Well, all you have to do is:
* Rotate the device to landscape mode
* Double tap on the section you want to zoom into.
* And then you can scroll around with your fingers.
* You can also zoom in and out further by pinching your fingers on the display.

I would like to buy an iPhone but I’m concerned that once I own the most incredible, life-changing consumer device ever invented, there will be nothing left in life to aspire to and it will all be downhill from here.
