You can get a portable CD player at Wal-mart for $10-15, and an adapter to plug it in to the car’s electrical system. (Try Radio Shack.)
The sound wouldn’t be that great, but it would be adequate.

The sound wouldn’t be that great, but it would be adequate. We'd run it on batteries, and with a little FM stereo transmitter (from Radio Shack) that plugs into the headphone jack, we'd listen on the car radio.
Do the same now, but it's with the MP3 player.
