You can get a portable CD player at Wal-mart for $10-15, and an adapter to plug it in to the cars electrical system. (Try Radio Shack.)
The sound wouldnt be that great, but it would be adequate. We'd run it on batteries, and with a little FM stereo transmitter (from Radio Shack) that plugs into the headphone jack, we'd listen on the car radio.
Do the same now, but it's with the MP3 player.

I used to just put a battery-powered tape player on the dashboard and listen, but my husband complained about the sound quality. I’ve never been picky about sound.

That would work. If my radio did. Once in a while, if I hit a bump just right, it will give me some static for about 10 seconds.
