We are still awaiting further details, but PWInsider.com is extremely saddened to report that former WWE and WCW World champion Chris Benoit and his wife, former WCW and ECW personality Nancy "Woman" Benoit were both found dead today in Atlanta, Georgia. Obviously this will be a huge developing story in the days to come but at this point, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to the Benoits' family, friends, and fans at this time.
A meeting is currently ongoing at WWE TV and it is expected that tonight's three hour Raw will now be dedicated to Benoit's memory.
6:09 Update: WWE.com issued the following statement this afternoon:
"WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family."
You crack me up!
Surreal - you betcha.
That's the way it worked very well for a long time. I agree. It appears to be a pretty sick business, all around.
I started watching wrestling when I was a wee tyke. It started because my grandpa would come over to the house to watch & I wanted to hang with him & my dad.
I stopped watching wrestling in the mid to late ‘70’s.
Over the last ten years I watched every now & again, but could not take much because it became too much like a soap opera. My husband & son like it, so upon occasion I suffer parts of the show.
About a yearish ago there was a match where the winner would “have sex” with some women in the ring. These fools actually pretended to have sex in the middle of the ring. This happened in an arena that was 1/3 children. That was the end for me. BS is OK for wrestling, but almost porno where children are in attendance is way out of line.
I loved Wahoo McDaniels & Ivan Putski. AND Rowdy Rodey ~ he is my all time favorite.
Sounds like the Edge/Lita storyline. Be glad you missed “Katie Vick”. Be very glad.
Wahoo was one of the nicest guys I ever met. Never met Putski. But Ivan Koloff was adorable. So sweet. Not what I expected at all.
I heard about that before on another board. I doubt it had anything to do with the situation though.
Honestly I am not sure who the players were.
I just remember thinking, over & over, “Oh my God, there are children in the audience! This is just wrong on so may levels”.
Guy with blonde hair & big teeth, female with flaming red hair & tattoos? It was incredibly tacky.
Sadly, for me, I never had the pleasure of meeting any of the old time wrestlers.
If I could turn back time & make changes, I would make it where myself, Dad & Grandpa Pete could meet the oldtimers.
Personally, I think Eaker is insane.
Goodness, I hope they did not do that more than once!
Nope. And the woman in question, Lita (given name Amy Dumas) is no longer in wrestling.
Stop looking in my window
Yup. His real life brother was Macho Man. Kinda funny though, Macho Man was....well, macho. Whereas, Poffo seemed kind of light in the loafers with that whole “poet” thing he had going on.
Pull the shade down
She really should have stopped after that neck injury. She was taking a huge risk.
Some of them do autograph sessions from time to time. Jimmy Garvin & Patti (Precious) are still married & make the rounds now & then.
A-1 story on the Kamala!! Thx. for sharing it.
She didn’t seem to be taking as many risks after the neck injury. Instead of aerial moves, she replaced the moonsault with a pretty kickass DDT. And she became more “diva” and less “wrestler.” That’s all I remember...I stopped watching wrestling shortly afterwards. I’m glad I went cold-turkey two years ago...the product isn’t as entertaining as it was mid-80s through late-90s.
