We are still awaiting further details, but PWInsider.com is extremely saddened to report that former WWE and WCW World champion Chris Benoit and his wife, former WCW and ECW personality Nancy "Woman" Benoit were both found dead today in Atlanta, Georgia. Obviously this will be a huge developing story in the days to come but at this point, we'd like to express our deepest condolences to the Benoits' family, friends, and fans at this time.

A meeting is currently ongoing at WWE TV and it is expected that tonight's three hour Raw will now be dedicated to Benoit's memory.

6:09 Update: WWE.com issued the following statement this afternoon:

"WWE is sad to report that Chris Benoit and his family have been found dead in their home. Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Tonight's Raw will be a tribute to Chris and his family."

A concerned neighbor called police. The bodies were found in three different rooms.

The lead investigator, Fayette County sheriff’s Lieutenant Tommy Pope, said only that the deaths were being investigated as homicide. He said the cause of death awaits autopsy results tomorrow.

Rushing to judgement - They said no gun, no knife...poison maybe. Poison leads me to believe it could have been his wife and that Chris may have committed suicide after finding them dead. Either way it is an aweful tragedy.

Chris may have committed suicide after finding them dead

A seven year old committing suicide?

In 99.999% of these scenarios, the father takes out his kids as well as his wife.

Wrestler, family found dead

Authorities believe wrestler Benoit killed wife, son then himself

Authorities believe a professional wrestler, his wife and son, found dead in their central Fayette County home Monday afternoon, died in a murder-suicide.

District Attorney Scott Ballard said Monday night that he felt confident that Chris Benoit killed his wife Nancy, their 7-year-old son and then himself.

Ballard declined to release the cause of death, but said that earlier news reports that the Benoits died of gunshots were false. The crime lab is in the process of confirming the cause of death, but Ballard said there was enough evidence on scene to make him confident that the Benoits were not killed by another person.

Ballard said sheriff’s deputies were called to the Benoit home around 2:30 p.m. after another wrestler called the sheriff’s department asking them to check on the family because Benoit had failed to show up for an event in another state. When deputies got to the Benoit home off Quarters Road, they smelled the odor of decaying bodies, Ballard said.

The family’s bodies were found inside the home, Ballard confirmed.

“Every indication is that this is a murder-suicide,” Ballard said, adding that additional investigation still has to take place before a final determination can be made.

Ballard said when he heard that a young child was killed, it “just tore my guts out.”

Benoit made his WWE debut in January 2000, following a stint in ECW and WCW and he was at one time world heavyweight champion, world tag team champion and intercontinental champion.

No - I was thinking his wife may have snapped - who knows. If he did it, I’d be shocked...but I guess thats how the neighbors feel when stuff like this happens...Never think that someone could do something like that.

Wrestlemania XX tragic ending.

Simply having the position of DA doesn’t make one immune. There’s one little DA who recently proved that. I’d rather just wait on the evidence than gossip about the possibilities. It amounts to little more than a WAG.

There might be a suicide note left behind.

What do I know - I was thinking about the timeline - He gets a call - uncharacteristically runs home to find his wife and kid dead, and kills himself.

Ive watched him for 15 years...just a guy you like to root for, respect. Not the kind of guy to kill wife and kid...but like i said what do i know.

“The details, when they come out,” said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard, “are going to prove a little bizarre.”

This one’s going to get ugly.
