In 2000, the neighbors across the street from my folks suddenly ended up with a black lab puppy. I think it just wandered into the yard one day, but I don't remember. They couldn't find an owner and decided to keep it as a rescue. They couldn't think of a name for a while, but about that time, the Democrats launched one of their typically mean, unfair attacks against (
then) Governor Bush. As a show of support, the neighbors decided to name the dog after Mr. Bush, and the dog has been "Dubya" ever since. He's a great dog.
I suspect that among Republicans, the next year or so will see a large number of new pets with names like Rudy (not any of mine!!), Fred, Duncan, Mitt, and maybe Huck. To start the trend, I decided that my latest acquisition will be named "Duncan" in support of Duncan Hunter. This one may be one of the more unique animals named for a presidential candidate.
