Good morning everyone.
A mural strange on our plane
our vision quite puzzled,
offered by Geekdejure for our pleasure
I have taken strong measure and loaded it to Fotki!
A treat from Thailand, starbase has shown us,
The Off the Beaten Path Tours enthralls us,
with exotic acclaim,
we see worlds around us that really astound us
this tour of an ancient culture for us is free!
We Thank You, starbase, for your big heart
by offering us a first showing without a fee
we enjoy your roaming, along main fare ways
or on side streets a visual tour first thing in the morning.

Tromp l'oeil

A gaunt and hoary slab of stone I found in desert place, And wondered why it lay alone In that abandoned place. Said I: 'Maybe a Palace stood Where now the lizards crawl, With courts of musky quietude And turrets tall.
Maybe where low the vultures wing 'Mid mosque and minaret, The proud pavilion of a King Was luminously set. 'Mid fairy fountains, alcoves dim, Upon a garnet throne He ruled,--and now all trace of him Is just this stone.
Ah well, I've done with wandering, But from a blousy bar I see with drunk imagining A Palace like a star. I build it up from one grey stone With gardens hanging high, And dream . . . Long, long ere Babylon It's King was I.

Hi Soaring,
Lovely poem/image! I'm happy to share the pictures I'm taking with the Lair.
Actually the interest of Lairites is probably the main reason I'm even taking pictures! I've traveled a lot and was never much of a picture taker, but these days I find them more interesting (plus it's so cheap and easy to mass produce photos these days!), so I'm quite glad to satisfy some of the interest here in the Lair.
It's 5:30am now (easy to rise early in these hot places, seems natural to do so, plus it's cooler in the early morning and you find yourself seeking out the cool times to circulate around town!). I'll head out to the airport at 9:00am, then it's back to Taiwan. I'm glad I moved way down south, I can't get over the relaxed feeling of the people there, but they are 85% of Taiwan's population and have only had political equality for the last 15 years or so.
So their confidence as owners of the island is sort of settled in now. And the reverse is true of the Mainlanders and Hakka (the other two groups on Taiwan), they are now sure they won't be calling the shots again, and I think that's what the nastiness I experienced in other places is drawn from.
Give me the down home folks any day! Just going up to the middle or top of the island I can feel the "issues" in people on a regular basis. It's down home Southern Hospitality for me!
