Well, my family growing up never called them that, but I knew of others that did. My wife and daughter use the term.

I buy my cajun food staples from Cajun Grocer.com. They have everything I need except Steen's cane syrup which can be bought from the Steen's website. WalMart stores seem to have a better than average selection, too with Cajun Injector and peanut oil for frying turkeys.

Nine years in BR and NO taught me what good eating really is.

ceej, is it possible to have a resistance to strep? we have NEVER had it in our house, not once, and my oldest is almost 19 yo. xsteen has had a headache and bad sore throat for 3 days running this week. sent her to the dr. today, thinking well there can always be a first. nope. nothing grew. they will continue to watch to see if anything shows up later, but they are thinking it is viral.

Never having Strep is more a matter of random good fortune than resistance. There are numerous viruses that can cause sore throat and the Rapid Strep Screen is very good for diagnosing acute Strep infections. If it's negative, it's unlikely that she has strep.

Had you told me that suddenly everyone in the house was getting strep, I would have blamed the dogs since they can be carriers. You may recall that President Reagan's KCS had to have his tonsils out for that reason.

I can get steens here in Ga. I usually stock up on the necessities when I go to LA, like real crawfish. I make a pretty mean etouffet. My hen and sausage gumbo isn’t too bad if I do say so myself.

Do you cook your own roux or have you ever tried the storebought? It’s just as good and takes about 1/3 the time.

"I was out on maternity leave," she said. "They informed me they received a letter saying I had been caught having sex with an inmate — which was a real laugh."

That's one of those letters that you frame.

Think she knew the guy, or was willing to go at it with the first inmate they could muster up?
