In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
deus ex machina • \DAY-us-eks-MAH-kih-nuh\ • noun
a person or thing (as in fiction or drama) that appears or is introduced suddenly and unexpectedly and provides a contrived solution to an apparently insoluble difficulty
Example sentence:
Only a deus ex machina could resolve the novel's thorny crisis.

The New Latin term "deus ex machina" is a translation of a Greek phrase and means literally "a god from a machine." "Machine," in this case, refers to the crane that held a god over the stage in ancient Greek and Roman drama. The practice of introducing a god at the end of a play to unravel and resolve the plot dates from at least the 5th century B.C.; Euripides (circa 484-406 B.C.) was one playwright who made frequent use of the device. Since the late 1600s, "deus ex machina" has been applied in English to unlikely saviors and improbable events that bring order out of chaos in sudden and surprising ways.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

i was mostly intrigued with that phraseology. have a pull is to have sex? i had not heard that before.

I actually first heard it on an episode of My Name is Earl.
Now that’s a show I never watched. Just not my thing.
This morning when I awoke to the news on the radio, I heard there were more LEOs with rifles around a building at VaTech. Someone at VaTech needs to have a deus ex machina. I know possessing a gun on campus was shot down by the State’s Congresscritters. It’s now time to put in another bill or reverse (if that’s possible) the bill that was shot down on Monday along with 32 deaths and 19 hospitalized. My numbers may be off a bit. I couldn’t watch it.
So I am on a temp position up here in Louisville KY for a few weeks ...

I overslept better, but I did get up at 5:00 a.m., started Cyber's coffee and fed Girl Friend, our new outdoor cat. She was waiting for the kitchen lights to come on, then appeared out of nowhere for her kiblets. She does give me a nice "meow" before she goes towards the bowl.
I know you dislike cats, but they are funny.

I speak the way I’ve been spoken to until recently... the dreaded youse came out of my mouth when I was helping a resident. Sheesh if my mom heard me say that, she’d glare at me hotly and ask, ‘What is a youse?’ Yet, all the residents say it because it seems to be an oldtimer Pennsylvania thing.

So did I. The brown haired woman, I believe, was the writer, director, producer and probably did the lights. She was a genius in her given genre.
