I was going to give up on FR but this thread made me realize that there are decent people out there. I don’t know what is going on. The mods are doing their job..I’ve reported posts and I know they review and delete if warranted. It just seems that there is a deep undercurrent of hate, racism, and everyone just wanting to act like refugees from Stormfront.

A few people wanted my post removed because I dared mention in a sarcastic tone that the families of these victims were already looking to sue. But noone has a word to say about someone expressing a desire to see a fellow freeper burned because they brought up a point in history about a fuel/paper/clothing source? I just don’t get it. Maybe I am the a&&. I don’t know.

Well, to be fair, you did characterize the families of the shooting victims at VT as “soon to be rich”. I don’t approve of this litigious society anymore than you do, but these families just lost their children yesterday. Let’s be a little more charitable, shall we?

this is why I’ve rarely posted on any other threads lately - I’m staying here - don’t take a break from FR - just only come to this thread! I have mostly done an all news blackout for months (I came out yesterday for a few minutes because I just wanted the details of what happened - that was not easy to get!) It’s really really ugly out there.

It just seems that there are a lot of unbending, closed minded conservative people on FR. They will not vote unless they have a “pure” candidate. There’s no GOP presidential frontrunner candidate that is making FReepers happy and I think that may be part of the frustration along with the 2006 election.

I consider myself a conservative, but I am not an EXTREME right wing thinker. I have issues with some animal rights and enviromental issues (not global warning) etc...

You are correct. I just wish they wouldn’t put so many that look like Dems in the running! I was so frustrated last election when noone was up against who was in our primary because the GOP in Georgia had all their backing on the incumbant. If the incumbant is screwing up, grow some balls and put some other choice against him!!

We got stuck with Blanco in Louisiana because there were conservatives here who refused to vote for Jindal because of his skin color. I don’t think they could grasp the fact that he is a Christian either. I do believe they are regretting it now. Bobby Jindal is a brilliant man and a workaholic who will stop at nothing to get things done.

Hold the phone! Some of the people dogged him out because he was Indian and originally Hindu. Unbelievable. This kind of racism and reactionary actions really make me sad. It used to be if I had on the fence friends I would tell them of my membership to Freerepublic and tell them to just check it out. I don’t do that anymore.

I spent Easter in Asheville NC and my granddaughter’s school had a special on Mother Earth for Grandparents’ Day. I found it very sweet that they are teaching K-8 how to respect and care for nature.

You're right, I should have quoted you correctly (above is your entire post that I was referring to). And yes, I know that there are families who will use lawsuits to vent their pain, or to "get even". But even with the "/s", your remark was callous; the blood of people's children is still on the walls of the classroom. You seem like a reasonable person in your other posts, why not just admit it instead of trying to defend it?
