Thread Number 3
Thank you! I had not heard of this movie.
After I saw "Miss Potter," I'm wondering why all the multiplexes aren't showing it. Even my husband loved it...
I haven’t even seen any advertising for it. It’s very sad what they promote these days.
“Ive been on one and the emotional decisions/impressions of some fellow FReepers are sad.”
Not only are they nasty regarding each others comments on the shootings, they are criticizing a person who started a thread because he/she misspelled a word. After the first 22 posts, there were 5 remarks chastizing him because of a misspelled word. It didn’t stop after those 22 comments...a few are still talking about it...even though it was corrected a long time ago! One person even put him down because he was a “newbie.”
I saw that. That is so childish. I suppose Newbie is the ultimate insult. Even though it was typed words you could just hear the disdain.
That is such a shame. I am a champion speller, but a lot of times I make typos. Sometimes it’s not a matter of spelling—occasionally I have a cat in my lap, I may be typing in the dark, sometimes I’m watching tv while I try to type and may be otherwise distracted... Don’t people think about these things?
No...for these people it’s about control and about being bullies. They live to call people out because it their pathetic minds it makes them feel bigger and important.
“Youd think the news media would act like adults and encourage more realistic expectations but unfortunately they are babies themselves. This seems to be happening no matter what the incident.”
I agree, maybe that went the way of Walter Cronkite or some before him. I think our newscasters are generally just cheerleaders, and usually they play to the lowest common denominator.
The almost stunning part of this grizzly story, the Israeli professor who sacrificed himself to save his students is given so much less attention than the blow by blow of the horrific aspects.
Certainly this “train wreck’ fascination is one reason why ANS was so popular.
I love the Newbie insult....it has been used against me...as has Thread Nanny.
Best slap shot - add it to your tagline...that’ll shut the bossy bastits down.
i.e. Official Thread Nanny and Honorable Lifetime Newbie.
tee hee
I am going to have to take a break from FR for a bit. People on here are getting way too nasty. Not on this thread, but on others. Maybe it’s the touchy situation that happened, but it’s on even other threads. One guy suggested they burn me as fuel because I mentioned that hemp was lobbyed out of use by the lumber companies as we were talking about alternative sources of fuel for cars. He said (to All mind you) that I was a hippy and eco-twit and should burned as fuel. WTH??
Why has FR gotten so darn nasty lately?
I’m so sorry about that. The mods seem to find these kind of remarks funny as well and don’t seem to do anything about the posters who act like that. I don’t understand.
I was going to give up on FR but this thread made me realize that there are decent people out there. I don’t know what is going on. The mods are doing their job..I’ve reported posts and I know they review and delete if warranted. It just seems that there is a deep undercurrent of hate, racism, and everyone just wanting to act like refugees from Stormfront.
The Israeli professor was also a holocaust survivor.
That seems to be the case. One thread seems to be devoted as to "where were the student heroes"....and this before ANYthing was known about what happened inside. And lets not even talk about the political threads.
Aside from getting DL safe and sound quickly, this thread can go on forever as far as I'm concerned. :o)
“””I am going to have to take a break from FR for a bit””
There is a site that shows activity on political websites, like FR and DU. IIRC FR is down - probably as a result of the 2006 election debacle...despair and grief. I guess the moderators don’t want to lose anyone, so they are not removing posts or banning blasphemy.
IMO the 2006 elections decimated GOP and conservatives - it was reflected here - so much blame to go around; i.e. ultras vs. Rinos.
There will be an FR resurgence - like the Swift Boaters and Dan Rather pajama squads - it’s cyclical - we just need something to stir the better angels of our passions.
Perhaps Hilary getting the DEM nomination will bring FReepers together.
Don’t break up;)
Well, to be fair, you did characterize the families of the shooting victims at VT as “soon to be rich”. I don’t approve of this litigious society anymore than you do, but these families just lost their children yesterday. Let’s be a little more charitable, shall we?
After that happened, I posted this and sorta slammed the spelling police by saying that some of us are smart enough to read right past spelling errors...
Aoccdrnig to a rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it deosnt mttaer in waht oredr the ltteers in a wrod are, the olny iprmoetnt tihng is taht the frist and lsat ltteer be at the rghit pclae. The rest can be a total mses and you can sitll raed it wouthit a porbelm. Tihs is bcuseae the huamn mnid deos not raed ervey lteter by istlef, but the wrod as a wlohe. Amzanig huh?
~LOL!!!
I always get a kick out of that when I read it.
