It’s the same thing. If he’s made a deal with Howie don’t you think that part of it is to keep Virgie out of the picture. Don’t you think that Virgie knows that and that may be part of the reason why she was pushing for legal standing to visit and be part of her life? Virgie, her investigators, her attorneys, and her son are not going to be the ones to throw Howie in jail. That’s up to the LE in Florida and the Bahamas and they seem to be dragging their feet and giving Howie the all clear. If those drugs had been street drugs and Anna an “angel” someone would have been locked up by now.

Eh, with due respect, I am not willing to elevate her to that level. She had no idea of struggle or survival, imo. She was drugged and oblivious. She could never care about Danny or the babe. Addicts are known to have psychopathic traits.

There must be a HUGE legal problem hiding under the radar - what are they afraid of? Certainly not LB’s reputation - it was not a concern when Howie was ‘daddy’.
Does it go back to the plot to grab the Marshall Estate??? How many criminal attorneys were actually involved in Anna’s case?? I smell a rats’ nest.

At times, particularly during the first half of the film, The Snake Pit comes across as much a film noir mystery as melodrama. Where is she, and how did she get there? Does Dr. Kik really want Virginia to recover, or is he manipulating her into further illness and/or romance? What parts of her experience are real, and what are her own creations? At some points, one wonders whether Virginia is descending further into her own madness or that of the hospital. After all, this was the era when electroshock therapy, ice baths and straitjackets were all considered legitimate, even cutting-edge, treatment. The Snake Pit doesn’t shy away from the horrors of those abuses, which is one of the most socially radical aspects of the film. Virginia is transferred around the hospital like an unwanted potato, not because she’s done anything wrong or is crazier than anyone thought, but because of external hospital dynamics and politics, including the wrath of a jealous nurse who is infatuated with Dr. Kik. When Virginia attempts to apply for ‘parole’, she is subjected to nothing less than a courtroom-like atmosphere masquerading as a staff evaluation.

Just typing comments on this thread is exhausting - what kind of mental and physical condition do you suppose poor Virgie is suffering?
Anticipating that Rita’s book must really be explosive..I trust ‘her sources’ will not let her down.
I can see the parallels.
No surprise if Howie is gay, considering he took Anna Nicole to gay bars. Possibly he hoped to get attention that his unattractive looks would not have. And there is Judge Milstein (is that his name?) embracing Howie.

This really leapt out at me. It’s a known fact that psychopaths will use sex to get what they want, or if it serves other purposes. The suspicions here have always been that HKS has a hold over many people; at the time, I found that hard to believe (duh). It is not out of the realm of possibility that even his dalliance with Larry-the greedy-but-not-so-bright, had a purpose. And anyone who photographs a dead person (Danny) right after the death is just such a crazy sicko and opportunist, that videoed sex for the purposes of blackmail (or even having a witness) seems mundane by comparison.

I think it is habituation- the abnormal becomes the normal world for people. Of course, these are people also addicted to that world, and who never question its morals or propriety. They have been hypnotised and continue to live in that trance world.
The only movie I can think of that comes close to it, is “Videodrome” by David Cronenberg. But if you think about it, books like 1984 and their trance inducing mantras also show that totalitarian forces are always at work. I think television definitely encourages you to enter an altered state of consciousness, especially news and entertainment shows.
Maybe your question was rhetorical or you didn’t want it answered. Still, I have wondered for decades how people believe everything they read and see and question nothing.

So typical of how psychopaths operate- smoke and mirrors, distraction and deflection from the facts and truth-just like magicians. I am guessing Howard is behind this because I think Larry is a voracious bubblehead, although his playing the victim isn’t anything new.
OK! is no small mag. For them to pull out means that there was something truly disturbing (and may come back to bite them). Not saying OK! suddenly found a conscience, but the fact that they are going public with this is really interesting.
Yeah, OK! wants to withdraw because of competitors? I guess the public will buy it. Geez, Larry whines a lot. What a victim he is! Once a champion, now put upon.
OF COURSE Larry double dealed- especially with Virgie, and he wants to do it at Daniel’s inquest. And that’s what really scorches my britches! Feh! He’s nothing but a Rapacious Scumbag with golden highlights and I fell for his shtick.
TMZ is actually publishing the gay allegations. This surprises me because they stayed away from snarky comments like they usually do.
Nothing new here but in like I said I’m surprised they reported it straight. (pun intended)

A new tell-all about Anna Nicole Smith from former MSNBC journalist Rita Cosby about alleges that Howard K. Stern and Larry Birkhead were secret gay lovers.
The book, “Blonde Ambition: The Untold Story Behind Anna Nicole Smith’s Death” describes an alleged brief tryst between Stern and Birkhead, reports the Daily News. Jackie Hatten, described as a friend of Anna Nicole’s, claims she found Stern and Birkhead witht heir shirts off and pants around their ankles, engaged in oral sex.
The book also accuses the feuding baby daddies of cutting a secret deal between them in which Birkhead would get custody of Dannielynn in return for Stern being named executor of Anna Nicoles estate.
Both Birkhead and Stern deny all of Cosby’s accusations. Birkhead said that he was disgusted by Cosby’s claims that he and Stern were gay lovers. “If she printed that then she is really getting sued,” he said.
Stern’s lawyer Lin Wood called the book “false and defamatory.”
“Betting that Howard wrote up the deals. Maybe Larry should rethink his position with Howard. Maybe that’s not a good term to use after reading the little expose on Howard and Larry.

BWAH! I just think Larry’s greed leads his brain, and I have an idea that there’s a lot of wind whistling thru that skull. I am not giving the highlighted one a shred of victim status here- in retrospect, I think a lot went down from early on that we never guessed. Larry strikes me as soft and squishy, like butter, laced throughout with desire.
I agree, Howard wrote up the deals. Also, I think that Howard is so pleased that Larry is so easy, a walk in the park- Anna, at least, could be shrewed when she wasn’t drugged- she had met her match in Howard and had proper contempt for him- just underestimated his wiliness. And the death of her son? Well, that was her undoing, and the psychopath’s triumph.
Damn, who on this thread is gonna write the definitive book???
