KNOXVILLE, Tenn. In a tragic twist to a familiar story, a teenager who had sex with his married 30-year-old teacher was fatally shot outside the woman's home, and authorities have charged the woman's husband.
"You see all this stuff with teachers involved with their students. It just comes up time after time on the national news," said Norman McLean, father of suspect Eric McLean. But this time, he said, someone "actually died over it."

We're embroiled in legal problems in TN over my late father's finances. The long and short of it is that his second wife was in the process of converting his assets to her own name when he had dementia and was hospitalized for surgery. He was mentally sound enough to want out of the marriage. We've found it tough sledding so far, in part because family law in TN is very protective of wives and widows. She ought to be sitting in jail for fraud and elder abuse, but instead we're dealing with a long fight to recover his assets. The local prosecutor said they have too many meth cases to deal with and don't have time to prosecute old ladies, and besides, the judges generally favor the old ladies anyway. Very frustrating.
As to Tennesse, we have a lot of family in West Tennessee, and my experiences with the people there have been very positive. Very kind people - with the exception of Pop's second wife and her family.
There's something you're forgetting- because of this man's foolish pride, his children are now without a father. He could have easily gouged his faithless wife in both custody and financial arrangements. Now his children are either left with a mother who is a lousy role model or they wind up in someone else's custody. That's too high a price for blowing away some hormone-crazed kid.
"He could have easily gouged his faithless wife in both custody and financial arrangements."
I wouldn't bet a cent on that. Besides, then the adulterous little punk gets off scot-free.
We are not talking about pride, here. We are talking about blinding rage resulting from some punk sniffing around where he had no business and ruining this guy's life. Can you even fathom that? No repercussions for ruining the lives of a whole family.
If I pinch a girl on the butt, I can be arrested for sexual assault. I sleep with some guy's wife, ruin his life, her life and their kids lives and nobody can do a thing to me.
That rage and the feeling of helplessness and the knowledge that nobody can do anything to the punk for ruining lives will often lead to violence through crimes of passion.
I could not condemn a man for shooting me for sleeping with his wife.
The lover did not force himself on the wife. In fact, I'll bet that the affair was her idea. And married women who seduce teenage boys don't tend to do well in divorce court.
In trying to avenge an evil done against him, he did something that was even worse.
Sounds to me like the WIFE was sniffing around where she shouldn't have been. She's the married one, which leads her to being the adulterous little punk, IMO. Sounds like SHE was the one making stupid decisions that ruined her life, her kids, her husband's and now some kid infatuated with probably his first sex partner. *And* a teacher is in a position of trust and authority over students. I'm not excusing the 18 year old, but what the hell was the WIFE thinking?? It was her marriage, her vows, her family.
I feel for the husband in a way, I really do. But my anger would be directed at my spouse for disregarding the marriage vows and disrespecting me and our relationship.
"But my anger would be directed at my spouse for disregarding the marriage vows and disrespecting me and our relationship."
Oh, no doubt!
Why I focus my attention on the punk guy is because I'm a man. I believe in honor among men. I understand that's a bit idealistic but it's not difficult. All it takes is the slightest bit of willpower and respect.
I know it's harsh but I hope this is a lesson to some, including women.
BTW, that's a cool tagline. Makes me want some fried green tomotaoes. :)
Pamela Smart

Oh yeah...one of the coolest in the movie. I like fried okra better but it's not as poetic..;)
Dealing with issues of infidelity in my own 22 year marriage (not mine either) and you're right, it is a matter of willpower and respect. Unfortunately not much of that is present during infidelity.
