Here is a little fellow who came to our car door in Custer State Park, the last prarie dog that knows how to ask for something politely. I gave him a cashew.

Sometimes we get nervous and go hide in the cellar till people come.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....that sounds kind of scary and sneaky. Think I'll stick to the sun for awhile.
I'll be heading for the "garage" and cellar soon enough. ;)

We had a great old cellar growing up. Big house, big cellar with three rooms. The main one had a cement floor, the darker one held the coal burning furnace and a dirt floor. The third one was actually the coal cellar. Most of the time you couldn't get into the coal cellar; we shoveled the coal from its doorway.

I don´t know what happened gran, it worked fine before I uploaded it but somehow it got messed up during the upload.
I only checked the first screen and it seemed OK but later when I posted it I found that the the whole thing was messed up.

Yesssssssss...now that's my kind of cellar. That good old musty smell. I had one like that growing up too, and of course the house we're selling was the same only way older yet. I wouldn't go down that one alone..lol.

Wasn't scary. Smelled real good, even after Dad's first batch of beer blew up.
The absolute coolest thing is when my collie had pups in the coal room. It was funny to me, but Mom must've have been mad.

This one wasn't scary because it was practically empty. Our huge barn held all our storage, so we could let the second room keep its dirt floor.

OMG...My Dad blew his beer up in ours too, lol. I guess everyone did in those days.
Ours had big rats, so you had to slam the door before you went down there, but we had a darkroom there and we always went there anyway. Our dog hated the rats and I usually took him down there with me.
Only little meece in our old house in NH. They don't bother me like big black rats..lol.

Got it. That was gorgeous. I hope you fix it so the others can see it.
I'll send it to my kids, as they loved the last one.

Then the faint metallic jingle returned. I traced it slowly feeling over the kitchen. Presently I heard it nearer--in the scullery, as I judged. I thought that its length might be insufficient to reach me. I prayed copiously. It passed, scraping faintly across the cellar door. An age of almost intolerable suspense intervened; then I heard it fumbling at the latch! It had found the door! The Martians understood doors!
It worried at the catch for a minute, perhaps, and then the door opened.
In the darkness I could just see the thing--like an elephant's trunk more than anything else--waving towards me and touching and examining the wall, coals, wood and ceiling. It was like a black worm swaying its blind head to and fro.
Once, even, it touched the heel of my boot. I was on the verge of screaming; I bit my hand. For a time the tentacle was silent. I could have fancied it had been withdrawn. Presently, with an abrupt click, it gripped something--I thought it had me!--and seemed to go out of the cellar again. For a minute I was not sure. Apparently it had taken a lump of coal to examine.
