Residents Fuming Over Mounting Garbage
Many New Providence residents are fuming over enormous heaps of garbage that have apparently been mounting at their homes for over a month and are now spilling in the roads increasing the presence of rodents.
Residents in Coral Harbour claim there has been no garbage collection for the past four weeks and the area is starting to smell because of the stacked-up waste. "This is ridiculous. Why is it that we can’t get our garbage picked-up? It’s been more than a month now," a female resident said.
"I don’t know what the garbage men are doing, but they need to get to Coral Harbour and get this trash. I spoke with my neighbour and she has the same problem."
Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Energy and Environment Ron Pinder (where did I hear that name before?) said he warned the public on several occasions that there would be significant delays in garbage collection on New Providence.
"During the Christmas season we tend to see a significant increase in the generation of household garbage from residents given the amount of functions that are being held by residents throughout New Providence and also a large amount of persons are doing quite a bit of renovations and cleaning during the Christmas season," he said.
"As a result of that we tend to experience some delays in garbage collection on the island of New Providence during this time of year."
Mr. Pinder said Coral Harbour and Coral Lakes residents were due to have their garbage collected by Tuesday afternoon.

The greater part of this is on New Providence, the colony’s central island. On the south shore, just 10 miles by road from Nassau, the 2,500-acre Coral Harbour development now sells homesite lots at prices ranging from $4,000 to more than $20,000.
