How does this medication work? What will it do for me?
Chloral hydrate belongs to the group of medications known as sedatives and hypnotics. It promotes sedation and sleep by acting on certain areas of the brain.
Chloral hydrate is used to manage short-term sleeping problems and is used before surgery or other procedures to reduce anxiety or to produce sedation or sleep. It may also be used to help calm or relax people who are nervous or tense for other reasons. This medication should normally not be used for longer than two to seven days, as it can become habit-forming.

How should I use this medication?
As a sleeping aid:
adults: 500 mg to 1,000 mg 15 to 30 minutes before bedtime
older adults: 250 mg 15 to 30 minutes before bedtime
children: 50 mg per kilogram of body weight at bedtime, to a maximum of 1,000 mg per dose
As a sedative:
adults: 250 mg three times daily after meals to a maximum of 2,000 mg in one day
children: 25 mg per kilogram of body weight per day in three or four divided doses taken after meals, to a maximum of 500 mg per dose.
Before surgery or procedures:
adults: 500 mg to 1,000 mg 30 minutes before procedure
children: 25 mg to 50 mg per kilogram of body weight 30 minutes before the procedure, to a maximum of 1,000 mg per dose

What form(s) does this medication come in?
Chloral hydrate is available in an orange-flavoured syrup. Each 1 mL of liquid contains chloral hydrate 100 mg. Nonmedicinal ingredients include sucrose, propylene glycol, glycerin, orange extract (natural), methylparaben, sodium benzoate, citric acid, sodium citrate, red dye #40, and yellow dye #10.
Who should NOT take this medication?
Chloral hydrate should not be taken by anyone who:
is allergic to chloral hydrate, or any of the ingredients
has severe reduction in kidney or liver function

Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic that belongs to the family of medications known as quinolones. It is used for the treatment of infections caused by certain bacteria. It is most commonly used to treat infections of the skin, bone, lung, ear, abdomen, and bladder. It can also be used to treat some sexually transmitted infections.

How should I use this medication?
The recommended adult dose of ciprofloxacin ranges from 250 mg to 750 mg twice daily. The exact dose depends on the condition being treated and other factors. Ciprofloxacin can be taken with or without food.

Type: liquid
Active ingredient: Each 100 mL of liquid contains 10 g of ciprofloxacin for a 10 % solution. The medication is composed of two components, microcapsules and diluent, which are mixed prior to dispensing. Nonmedicinal ingredients: poly(ethyl acrylate methyl methacrylate) dispersion 30%, magnesium stearate, methyl-hydroxypropylcellulose, polysorbate 20, polysorbate 25, strawberry flavour 52312, strawberry flavour 54267, lecithin, medium chain triglycerides, sucrose, and purified water.
Type: tablets
250 mg: Markings: engraved "CIPRO" on one side and "250" on the other. Active ingredient: 250 mg of ciprofloxacin.
500 mg: Markings: engraved "CIPRO" on one side and "500" on the other. Active ingredient: 500 mg of ciprofloxacin.
750 mg: Markings: engraved "CIPRO" on one side and "750" on the other. Active ingredient: 750 mg of ciprofloxacin.
Nonmedicinal ingredients for tablets: colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose 2910-15, magnesium stearate, maize starch, microcrystalline cellulose, polyethylene glycol, purified water, titanium dioxide. This medication does not contain lactose or tartrazine.

Ciprofloxacin should not be taken by anyone who:
is allergic to ciprofloxacin or any other ingredient of the medication
is allergic to other quinolone antibiotics
is pregnant or nursing
has a history of tendinitis or tendon rupture that happened while taking any of the quinolone antibiotics
has not yet reached the age of 18 (i.e., children and adolescents)

Egads, I don't need to sleep that bad. I've been prescribed Biaxin(sp) for chronic bronchitis, but I have heard of Cipro. Seems to me that any money Anna had went to feed her drug habit. Was she on an insurance plan? Yeah, like it matters at this point...
