In October of 1994, Stern represented Smith in a lawsuit against New York magazine. For its "White Trash Nation" issue, it had published a cover photo of Smith squatting in a short skirt and cowboy boots while eating chips—a photo that was not taken during the formal photo session. Stern filed a $5 million lawsuit stating that the photo had been unauthorized and that the article had damaged her reputation.

So now we have confirmation that he knew her in 1994. That explains the 12 year comment from Daniel.

You have to read through a whole lot of ANS coverage to catch what many of the more recent stories have done. They researched old ANS articles (maybe) and anywhere it just said "her lawyer" or "her attorney" they put in Stern's name, not taking into consideration that she has had many other attorneys.

The current media does it all the time with the Marshall cases.

So, I always go back and try to find the original story, if possible, then to the law files, if I have to.

Luckily, the NY Mag story was still around from 1994 when I was tracking down all the attorneys' names for the Case Name List. Freydl had been her lawyer in the Cerrato case, which she lost to the tune of $850,000.

Original story

" ... ANNA NICOLE SMITH, the voluptuous model, filed suit against New York magazine on Wednesday claiming unauthorized use of her photograph on the cover of its Aug. 22 issue for an article called "White Trash Nation."

In the photo, she appeared squatting in a short skirt and cowboy boots and was eating a bag of chips. That's not what she expected to see in print, her lawyer, T. PATRICK FREYDL, said yesterday. The suit, brought in Superior Court in Los Angeles, seeks $5 million in damages to her reput...

In October of 1994, Stern represented Smith in a lawsuit against New York magazine.
----

Chronology:

Nov 92 - signs 3-yr contract with Guess? Jeans - invents Anna Nicole as model name
May 93 - playboy again, also named Playmate of the Year

2/12/94 - hospitalized for three days after mixing rx and alcohol and collapsing at Bev Hills hotel

1994 - an $830,000 sexual harassment suit brought in 1994 by her former nanny, Maria Antonia Cerrato. The case was later settled. Cerrato was hired to take care of Anna Nicole's son, Daniel

6/27/94 - marries J. Howard Marshall

6/27/94 - Anna leaves wedding for modeling shoot for H&M (german? swiss? clothing line)

Nov 95 - ANS hospitalized for six days following what her 'spokesman' calls an 'adverse reaction to rx medication'

Virgie drives her to Rehab at Betty Ford in '95

95/96 - ANS makes video interview states she will never abuse drugs again after being in drug=caused coma and havng to 'learn to walk again'

from former manager/discoverer for guess jeans about anna:

GRACE:
Do you know what caused the falling out?

REDDING:
To be honest, Howard Stern. I mean, the last few years, Howard didn`t want Anna to have anything to do with her past friends or past family.

GRACE:
How do you think that happened?

REDDING:
Just, you know, Howard wanted her to move up to another level, and everyone kept wanting things from Anna. And I think Howard just decided to cut everybody off and have her start fresh. That was his opinion; that`s what he thought he could do.

Jan 96 - marshall falls ill and dies Aug 4 of pneumonia at 90
Feb 96 - ANS files for bankruptcy in Calif court

so......Stern was around before Anna wound up od'd the first time? in 1994? and Stern was around when Anna od'd the second time? Nov 1995? Holy Hannah! Enough Drugs to OD on sure seem to follow Stern around, don't they?

and so does Anna not having any money! she had to have made a MINT during that time between Marshall and GUess? and Playboy, not to mention H&M - where did the money go? the interest alone on, say, 4 million would have been several hundred thousand a year, yes? (not a math major) didn't Stern go on record that he was her 'money manager' all these years??
